The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thaler tries to land a front kick but FaceClay steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. FaceClay throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
FaceClay fails miserably with a takedown attempt. FaceClay misses the jab. Thaler throws a nice looking combination but FaceClay bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. FaceClay misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. FaceClay cracks a nice hook into Thaler's ribs. Thaler throws a series of strikes that have FaceClay backpedaling.
It looks like MuleKick FaceClay has been cut. Thaler is looking to land body kicks. Thaler tries to bum rush FaceClay with a series of wild strikes but FaceClay uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Thaler throws a right and a left that FaceClay avoids nicely. FaceClay tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Thaler clinches with his opponent.
FaceClay breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. FaceClay swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Thaler chopping away at his opponent's legs.
FaceClay looks gassed! FaceClay swats away the attempt to clinch by Thaler. Thaler falls off balance throwing a combination
and FaceClay counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. FaceClay trying to stand up but can't free himself from Thaler's guard. Thaler throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Thaler bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in FaceClay's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thaler wants to control from the top but FaceClay keeps moving. Thaler slips nicely into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. FaceClay tries to kick Thaler off but Thaler keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Thaler wants to take a breather but FaceClay is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. FaceClay wants to get back to his feet. Thaler landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Thaler is looking for a kimura here.
Thaler stops FaceClay from getting back to his feet.
FaceClay is looking to control Thaler's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can FaceClay avoid being mounted? FaceClay is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nice strikes from Thaler there. Thaler wants to lay and pray for a moment but FaceClay keeps working. Thaler working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. FaceClay is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Thaler pulls his head out easily.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. FaceClay misses with a head kick.
FaceClay fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Ervic Thaler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of MuleKick FaceClay. Thaler shoots in and bounces FaceClay off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. FaceClay keeping moving, preventing Thaler from controlling successfully. Thaler controls from within his opponent's guard. FaceClay is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Thaler pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. FaceClay is keeping the position for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ervic Thaler dominated that round. The cut man is working on MuleKick FaceClay's cut. That's time! Thaler's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Thaler changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. FaceClay tries to avoid it but Thaler manages to keep hold of a leg and drag FaceClay to the ground. FaceClay escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Thaler scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. FaceClay shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. FaceClay wants to get up but he can't break Thaler's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. FaceClay looking to sit in guard and control but Thaler gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Thaler pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. FaceClay is keeping the position for now. FaceClay utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Thaler prevents FaceClay from getting back to his feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thaler advances position into side control! Thaler lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. FaceClay wants to get back to his feet. Thaler gets to mount! FaceClay was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. FaceClay is trying to stand. FaceClay is trying to stand but he's just given Thaler his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Thaler lands punches and elbows. FaceClay turns into Thaler and is now in his guard.
Thaler has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think FaceClay should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Thaler has tightened it up now! FaceClay should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
