Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rickhard Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ismo Laitela (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laitela looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
It looks like Ismo Laitela has been cut.
Laitela looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Laitela trying to mount his opponent but Smith defends it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith has hold of Laitela's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Laitela manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Smith looking to control but Laitela is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Laitela bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Smith manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Laitela tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Smith drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Laitela is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control.
Laitela is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Laitela keeps working.

Smith lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Laitela down.
You can see the frustration on Laitela's face as Smith controls the position.

Smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Laitela is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Smith wants to control but Laitela is keeping him busy.
Smith decides to stand back up.

and Smith counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Laitela thinking.

Smith lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Laitela at a distance.
Laitela shoots and misses
and Smith counters with a two punch combo.
Smith misses with a double jab.
Laitela with a poor takedown
and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. Laitela fights it but they end up in guard.
Rickhard Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ismo Laitela.
This has been an exciting period of action!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Laitela is on top in guard.
Laitela postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Smith is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Laitela, into his guard.

Laitela is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Smith has an Americana. Laitela didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Smith is delighted and gyrates infront of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Smith hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
