PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stoned Fighter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Stoned Fighter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Antonio Rivera!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paul Aken and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fighter fails with the takedown
and Rivera counters with a nice body shot.
Rivera displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Fighter.
Fighter takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Nice straight punches there by Rivera. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Rivera.
Fighter moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
A swing and a miss from Rivera.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rivera getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
A looping hook to the body misses from Fighter. Rivera does a little dance to reset his feet.
Fighter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Fighter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rivera as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stoned Fighter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fighter looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A left lands for Rivera.
Fighter with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Rivera to score with a decent uppercut.
Rivera is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Fighter shoots in but no luck this time.
Nice takedown defense from Rivera. No joy for Fighter on that attempt.
Fighter is breathing heavily.
Rivera connects with a good right hand that stumbles Fighter. Fighter circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Stoned Fighter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fighter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rivera sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fighter somewhat.
Rivera looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Fighter gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Nice shot lands for Rivera.
Fighter shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Rivera counters with a nice body shot.
Fighter could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Good shot there by Rivera.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Fighter looks to clinch
and Rivera counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Rivera scores with the left hand. Fighter knows he should have avoided that one.
Rivera throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Fighter on the side of the head.
Fighter tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Rivera connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Fighter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rivera but Rivera pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rivera might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Fighter shoots in looking for a takedown but Rivera manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Fighter's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rivera scores with a jab. Fighter acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Rivera works Fighter's body with a nice hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fighter tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rivera connects with a single shot there.
Fighter has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rivera finds it's way round the side to connect with Fighter's head.
Fighter walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Rivera lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Fighter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Fighter throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Rivera throws out a counter right but Fighter avoids it with no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fighter is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Rivera has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fighter is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rivera sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Rivera tries to bum rush Fighter with a series of wild strikes but Fighter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Fighter shoots in looking for a takedown. Rivera tries to sprawl out of it but Fighter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rivera manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rivera doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Fighter looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Fighter takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Fighter looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rivera is fending him off so far but Fighter persists. Nope, Rivera circles away and we're back to standing.
Rivera lands a really nice looking cross but Fighter seems unphased.
Rivera smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Fighter takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Rivera has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Fighter takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
The fight stays on the outside here - Fighter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Fighter moves forwards but Rivera connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Fighter wants to clinch up but Rivera keeps it at a distance.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Fighter. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Antonio Rivera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Rivera connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Rivera is pushing Fighter up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Fighter looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rivera is fending him off so far but Fighter persists. Nope, Rivera circles away and we're back to standing.
A little jabbing left from Rivera on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Rivera thuds his right hand into Fighter's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Fighter drops his hands momentarily and Rivera takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Rivera keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Fighter really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Rivera avoids the head kick by Fighter.
Rivera connects with a body shot that sends Fighter's belly button to the back.
Rivera scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rivera lands with a hook. Fighter tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Rivera slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Fighter wants to clinch up but Rivera keeps it at a distance.
Rivera looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Fighter takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Rivera, as that shot connected.

Fighter darts in and clinches Rivera up against the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rivera creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Fighter looking to throw knees to the head but Rivera is blocking nicely.

Rivera lands a hook that snaps the head of Fighter backwards.
Rivera effectively controlling the action here.
Fighter tries to pull guard but Rivera forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Rivera lands a left hand that snaps the head of Fighter backwards.

Antonio Rivera is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Fighter tries to land knees in the clinch but Rivera avoids the damage to the body.

Antonio Rivera comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rivera has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
