Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vesa Sykk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuya Shimizu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sykk comes to the cage accompanied by Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name . Shimizu has chosen Negative - Still Alive as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Yuya Shimizu was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vesa Sykk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sykk feints a jab promting Shimizu to slip. Sykk then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Shimizu slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Sykk throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Shimizu stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Shimizu has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Sykk finds it's way round the side to connect with Shimizu's head.
Sykk gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Sykk throws a lazy right hand but Shimizu sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Shimizu moves out of range of the body kick from Sykk.
And Shimizu tries to counter it with a takedown but Sykk pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Shimizu lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Sykk darts in looking for a takedown but Shimizu gets double underhooks and turns Sykk into the cage.
Sykk takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Shimizu misses with a hook.
Sykk throws a counter high kick but Shimizu was just alert enough to avoid it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Shimizu has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Shimizu thows a huge punch but Sykk dodges it nicely.

Shimizu lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Sykk has his foot on Shimizu's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shimizu works his way back into a safe position though.
Sykk has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shimizu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Shimizu lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Sykk throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Shimizu lets loose with a powerful body kick. Sykk will feel that in the morning.

Shimizu checks the leg kick nicely there.
Sykk pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Shimizu slips a jab from Sykk.

Shimizu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Sykk uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Shimizu has time to react.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Shimizu checks a leg kick.
Shimizu misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sykk.
Sykk looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close second round but I would say that Vesa Sykk will probably get the nod.

Sykk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shimizu swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Shimizu has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sykk is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Shimizu.

Sykk thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Sykk tries to move to mount but Shimizu blocks the move with his legs.
Shimizu sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Shimizu tries to get to full guard but Sykk has control of the leg.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shimizu tries to roll over but Sykk keeps him under control.
Sykk is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sykk is thwarting Shimizu's attempts to control the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sykk shoots in and bounces Shimizu off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Vesa Sykk.
I think Sykk has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
