PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hideki Higkiko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zoran Jolevi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hideki Higkiko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Zoran Jolevi!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Higkiko lands a nice shot that snaps Jolevi's head back.
A slapping leg kick lands for Higkiko.
Higkiko misses with a looping left.
Jolevi throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Jolevi keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Higkiko.
Higkiko cracks Jolevi with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Higkiko lands a nice leg kick that just misses Jolevi's sensitive parts.
Higkiko dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jolevi. That did some damage!
Jolevi moves out of range of the body kick from Higkiko.

And Jolevi tries to counter it with a takedown but Higkiko pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Jolevi on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Jolevi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jolevi's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Higkiko throws out a leg kick but Jolevi moves out of range and Higkiko only half commits.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Higkiko counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Higkiko lands with a kick to the ribs.
Higkiko throws a nice inside leg kick.
Higkiko looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Higkiko fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Jolevi has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Jolevi looks for a takedown but Higkiko sprawls well.
Jolevi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Higkiko sprawls well. Higkiko wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jolevi gets slowly back to his feet.

Jolevi uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Higkiko.
Higkiko seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Higkiko scoring well with a low kick there.

Jolevi closes the distance and clinches.
Jolevi misses with a hook to the ribs.
Jolevi goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Higkiko escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Higkiko feints a jab promting Jolevi to slip. Higkiko then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Jolevi slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Jolevi throws a nice looking combination but Higkiko bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
It looked like Higkiko wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
A nice leg kick lands there from Higkiko.
Higkiko goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Jolevi checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Jolevi crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Higkiko - the referee stops the clock and Jolevi gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Higkiko. Jolevi manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Higkiko throws a leg kick but Jolevi sees it coming and moves out of range.
Jolevi is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Higkiko.

Donk. Higkiko catches Jolevi right on the button with a cross.

That kick from Higkiko tenderised Jolevi's leg. Jolevi is trying to keep his angry face on.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Higkiko.
Jolevi throws a right hand that Higkiko ducks under and follows up with a left that Higkiko also avoids with ease.

Higkiko is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jolevi can do to turn this around?

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Jolevi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Higkiko knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Jolevi working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Higkiko wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Higkiko on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Higkiko tries to get out of the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Higkiko parries the strikes from Jolevi easily there. Jolevi is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Higkiko to escape.

Jolevi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jolevi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Zoran Jolevi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jolevi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Jolevi has hold of Higkiko's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Higkiko seems comfortable defending it but Jolevi has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Higkiko is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Higkiko is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Jolevi couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Zoran Jolevi!
Zoran Jolevi decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
