PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pepa Depa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Baby Face (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baby Face is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Borneo Head Hunter Theme Song 2. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pepa Depa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bobby Baby Face!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Depa shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Baby Face looking to hit a scissor sweep but Depa is one step ahead there.

Baby Face is looking for a triangle but Depa pushes his legs off easily.
Baby Face looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Depa drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Baby Face manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Depa has Baby Face in his guard.

Baby Face wants to pass the guard but Depa is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baby Face is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Depa keeping moving, preventing Baby Face from controlling successfully.
Depa is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Baby Face is controlling him.
Depa keeping full guard, as Baby Face tries to pass.

Baby Face must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Baby Face slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
It looks like Baby Face might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Depa misses with a body kick.
Depa fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Baby Face tries to counter with a clinch but Depa shakes him off and moves away.
Baby Face closes the distance and clinches up with Depa, looking for a takedown. Baby Face pushes Depa against the cage but Depa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Depa has taken the fight to the clinch.

Baby Face pulls guard successfully.
Depa trying to control the position from guard on top but Baby Face is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Baby Face is looking for a triangle but Depa pushes his legs off easily.

Depa postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Baby Face is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Depa, into his guard.

Baby Face might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Depa haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Baby Face is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Depa goes for a double leg but Baby Face avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Baby Face continues to drive forward.
Baby Face throws a head kick but Depa moves out of range.

Depa stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Depa wants it to stay on the feet.
Baby Face tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Baby Face misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baby Face doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Depa counters with a left to the body.
Pepa Depa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bobby Baby Face.
Baby Face uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Depa.
Depa looks to land a combination but Baby Face avoids it well.

Baby Face fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Pepa Depa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Depa shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Baby Face defends it nicely.
Baby Face feints the counter takedown.
Baby Face looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Depa bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Baby Face is breathing heavily.

Depa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Baby Face has escaped the position, nice work there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Depa working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Depa tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Depa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Baby Face keeps working.

Baby Face is looking for a sweep.

Depa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Baby Face knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Baby Face tries to bench press Depa off him but Depa keeps the position.
Baby Face is still trying to improve position.

Depa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Baby Face has escaped the position, nice work there.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Baby Face is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Depa off and has taken his back!
Baby Face struggling to keep hold of the position.
Depa wants to get back to his feet.
Pepa Depa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pepa Depa dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Baby Face checks a leg kick.
Depa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Baby Face's waist but Baby Face gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Depa off to one side.

Baby Face instigates a clinch.
Depa wants to take the fight to the mat but Baby Face manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Baby Face drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Depa gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Baby Face pulls guard.
Depa seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Depa is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Baby Face is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Baby Face has escaped and now he's on top!

Baby Face manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Depa manages to get himself to full guard.

Depa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Baby Face stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Depa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Depa looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Baby Face!

Depa is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Baby Face is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Depa looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Pepa Depa.
Well Depa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
