Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mitch Castro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wladmir Provodnikov! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Dmitry Maklakov and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Provodnikov misses with a wild combination.
Castro is looking to counter the offense by Provodnikov and move into the clinch. Horrible takedown attempt by Provodnikov or perhaps it was just good defense by Castro, which made it look bad. Castro shoots in looking for a takedown. Provodnikov tries to sprawl out of it but Castro keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Provodnikov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Provodnikov is looking for the big counter here. Provodnikov fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Provodnikov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Castro forces Provodnikov back against the cage and clinches. Castro is defending well against a takedown attempt. Mitch Castro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wladmir Provodnikov. Provodnikov wants to break free but Castro has control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Castro landing knees to the head.
Provodnikov lands a left hand.
Both fighters working to control the clinch. Castro throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Provodnikov blocks it with crossed arms. Provodnikov fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Castro on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Provodnikov has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Castro after a bit of a struggle. Provodnikov tries to pull guard but Castro won't allow it.
Provodnikov has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Provodnikov is working for takedown but Castro is calmly controlling the position for now. Provodnikov looks winded! Provodnikov tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Castro just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Castro prevents Provodnikov from breaking the clinch. Castro misses with a hook to the ribs.
Provodnikov has Castro pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Castro manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Castro misses with a body punch.
Provodnikov has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Provodnikov lands a left hand that snaps the head of Castro backwards. Castro tries to break free but Provodnikov pushes him back against the cage. Castro using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Provodnikov has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Castro stops a takedown attempt from Provodnikov.
Provodnikov is trying to pull guard but Castro turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Castro misses with a knee strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Castro tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Provodnikov's elbow. Castro digs a right hand into Provodnikov's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Provodnikov's gas tank. Provodnikov blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Provodnikov looks to throw an elbow but misses. Provodnikov tries to circle away but Castro has him pinned against the cage. Provodnikov avoiding damage.
Provodnikov throws a punch but it's blocked by Castro. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Castro obliges. Castro lands a knee to the body.
Castro lands a knee to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Provodnikov using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Castro has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Provodnikov fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Provodnikov wants to stall.
Provodnikov tries to break the clinch but Castro is controlling the position. Castro pushes Provodnikov back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Provodnikov drops down looking for an ankle pick but Castro pulls his leg out and moves away.
Castro closes the distance and pushes Provodnikov back into the cage. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Castro prevents the takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mitch Castro dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Provodnikov misses with a takedown and Castro counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Provodnikov wants to stand back up but Castro manages to pass into side control.
Provodnikov wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Castro has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Provodnikov's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Provodnikov is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Castro!
