Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
29 - 27 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dimentiy Boykin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rami Kottari! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksandr Martynov and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boykin misses with a few strikes there.
Sloppy strikes from Boykin. Those never looked like landing. Boykin shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kottari as he jumps to the side. Kottari with the counter takedown but Boykin avoids it easily. Boykin lands a slapping body shot.
Boykin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kottari to the ground. Boykin is now in Kottari's guard. Boykin preventing the sweep. Kottari keeping moving, preventing Boykin from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boykin preventing the sweep. Boykin trying to control but Kottari is working from the bottom. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Kottari preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Kottari's coach down at Bad Pluto! (17 Elite Coach) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Kottari's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Boykin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Kottari waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Boykin. Boykin walks into a stiff left hand from Kottari. Boykin swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Kottari. Boykin moves in looking to clinch but Kottari pushes him off. Kottari rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Boykin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Boykin jabs Kottari to the body, keeping him at a distance. Kottari swings for the body but Boykin moves out of range.
Boykin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Boykin lands a jab to the nose. Boykin cracks Kottari with an open hand slap. Kottari misses with a hook. Boykin ducked under it nicely. This has been an exciting period of action! Kottari looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
It looks like Rami Kottari has been cut. Boykin lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Kottari throws a big shot that misses. Boykin tests Kottari's chin there with a solid looking shot. Boykin lands an overhand right. Kottari throws a looping overhand right but Boykin ducks down to avoid it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kottari lands with a cross. Boykin connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. This fight brought to you by 5M nutrition - it's mmmmm tasty. Nice jab by Kottari. Boykin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kottari sprawls well initially but Boykin persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Boykin seems to be looking for submissions.
Kottari controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Boykin is stalling here. Kottari is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Boykin seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kottari has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Kottari controls the position from side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boykin is looking for a sweep. Boykin can't do much from the bottom here. Kottari trying to control the position but Boykin is working away. Kottari tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Kottari wants to control but Boykin is keeping him busy. Boykin is looking for a sweep. Boykin taking punishment in the form of punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boykin is looking for a sweep. Boykin is not content to let Kottari control the position. Boykin is positioning himself to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dimentiy Boykin dominated that round. The cut man is working on Rami Kottari's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Boykin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kottari, pushing him back against the cage. Boykin looking for a takedown. Boykin has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Kottari after a bit of a struggle. Boykin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kottari can do to turn this around? Kottari is pushing Boykin up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Boykin jumps guard but Kottari stands there with Boykin around his waist. Boykin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dimentiy Boykin. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Boykin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kottari gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. A head punch blocked on the inside by Kottari. A battle for position here, against the cage. Kottari looking to slow down the pace here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boykin is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Kottari is defending well. Kottari wants the takedown. Boykin is fighting it off but Kottari persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Boykin's guard against the cage. Boykin has momentary wrist control but Kottari slips an elbow through the middle. Boykin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kottari gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Kottari trying to control the position from guard on top but Boykin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kottari scoring with punches to the head and body. Boykin looking for a triangle here. Kottari is fighting it but it looks tight! Boykin pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Kottari is tapping out - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Dimentiy Boykin! A relieved looking Dimentiy Boykin thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
