Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Estacio da Fonseca! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Walker! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Matheus Silva and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by da Fonseca or perhaps it was just good defense by Walker which made him look bad. da Fonseca shoots in and drives through. Walker sprawls well. Walker ducks down and throws a hook to the body but da Fonseca moves away. Walker shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in da Fonseca's guard. Walker stopping the sweep attempt from da Fonseca. There's a bit of a scramble here and now da Fonseca is on top in guard.
Walker looking to hit a scissor sweep but da Fonseca is one step ahead there. da Fonseca trying to control the position from guard on top but Walker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Walker wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and da Fonseca manages to pass to side control. Walker is concentrating on defense, preventing da Fonseca from advancing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. da Fonseca throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Walker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. da Fonseca is working away from the top position though. da Fonseca is looking to advance position but Walker won't allow it.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. da Fonseca decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Walker looking for submissions from an awkward position here. da Fonseca is stalling here. Walker is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! da Fonseca seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Walker has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. da Fonseca wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! da Fonseca can't do much from the bottom here. Walker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with da Fonseca. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. da Fonseca tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Walker wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. You can see the frustration on da Fonseca's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. da Fonseca is trying to improve his position. da Fonseca gets back to half guard. da Fonseca trying to hold on to Walker's head to control him but Walker postures up.
da Fonseca keeps control of the position for the meantime. Walker looks gassed! da Fonseca trying to control but Walker postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. da Fonseca manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Walker postures up.
da Fonseca wants to sweep but no luck. da Fonseca manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
da Fonseca landing strikes from the mount and Walker is in trouble! da Fonseca looking to control and managing it successfully. da Fonseca is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Walker has managed to escape the submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A nice elbow there by da Fonseca. da Fonseca controlling the position easily from mount. Walker is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, da Fonseca has taken his back.
da Fonseca controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. da Fonseca is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Walker won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips da Fonseca off his unconscious opponent!
