Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shinji Ryu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walter Mattos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Shinji Ryu! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Walter Mattos! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mattos digs a good hook to Ryu's body.
Ryu checks a low kick from Mattos. Ryu swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Mattos is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ryu sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Mattos fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Ryu is out of range. Mattos throws a sloppy head kick and Ryu moves out of range easily. A looping hook to the body misses from Ryu. Mattos does a little dance to reset his feet. Ryu misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Ryu tries to close the distance and clinch but Mattos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. An inside leg kick lands from Mattos. Shinji Ryu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ryu with a poor takedown and Mattos counters with a lovely straight right hand! Mattos shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ryu as he avoids it easily. Mattos buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round. A head kick misses from Mattos. Mattos throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Ryu. Ryu keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Shinji Ryu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walter Mattos. Ryu misses with a takedown and Mattos counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Mattos connects with a solid leg kick. No luck for Ryu with that takedown attempt. Ryu with a poor takedown and Mattos counters with a slapping leg kick. Mattos cracks the inside of Ryu's front leg.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mattos defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ryu. Good leg kick by Mattos there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mattos. Mattos lands a lovely overhand right. Ryu misses with a takedown attempt - Mattos sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Ryu is breathing heavily. Ryu is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Mattos looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ryu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mattos as he jumps to the side.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ryu takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Mattos throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Ryu's head. Ryu throws a hook but Mattos avoids it easily. It seemed like Mattos was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Ryu lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Ryu displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mattos. Ryu is looking to counter with a body kick. No luck for Ryu with that takedown attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mattos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ryu but Ryu pushes him off and we're back to square one. Nice cross by Mattos. Ryu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mattos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ryu somewhat. Ryu fails with the takedown. Mattos looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ryu is fending him off so far but Mattos persists. Nope, Ryu circles away and we're back to standing. Ryu tries to clinch but Mattos moves out of range. Mattos flicks out a counter leg kick but Ryu steps away. Mattos throws a leg kick which misses Ryu's front leg but catches the back leg as Ryu tries to avoid it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Walter Mattos dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Mattos shoots in but no luck this time. Mattos connects with a right hand. Ryu shakes it off. Ryu shoots in looking for a takedown. Mattos tries to sprawl out of it but Ryu keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mattos manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Ryu might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far. Mattos shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ryu as he avoids it easily. Ryu stuffs the takedown. Shinji Ryu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walter Mattos. A jab from Mattos finds it's way through Ryu's defenses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ryu tries to bum rush Mattos with a series of wild strikes but Mattos uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Shinji Ryu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Mattos fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Ryu. Mattos checks a low kick from Ryu. Ryu swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Mattos shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ryu as he jumps to the side. Ryu walks forward, straight into a front kick from Mattos. Ryu is looking to clinch. Ryu changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Mattos throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Ryu's head. Mattos's corner calls for a 1-2. Mattos obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mattos fails to land the takedown. Ryu looks to clinch and Mattos counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Ryu gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily letting Mattos counter with a right hand. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ryu wants to clinch. It seemed like Mattos was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Mattos fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mattos lands a nice leg kick that just misses Ryu's sensitive parts. Ryu is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Ryu on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Ryu displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mattos. Mattos throws a nice outside leg kick. Mattos smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. A chopping leg kick lands by Mattos. Ryu fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Mattos appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick. Mattos shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ryu as he jumps to the side.

Ryu went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Nice takedown defense from Mattos. No joy for Ryu on that attempt. Mattos fails with the takedown. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mattos misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Walter Mattos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Mattos goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mattos leaves Ryu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mattos fails with the takedown. Mattos lands with a nice combination. Ryu backs away looking to recover. Ryu wants to clinch but Mattos slips to the side and Ryu takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Mattos has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Mattos lands an overhand right. Ryu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mattos as he jumps to the side. Mattos bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Mattos looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ryu is fending him off so far but Mattos persists. Nope, Ryu circles away and we're back to standing. Ryu has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Mattos. Mattos tries a head kick but it misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ryu wants to clinch but Mattos slips to the side and Mattos counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Ryu thinking. Mattos looks to land a combination. Ryu sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Ryu falls off balance throwing a combination

And that's the end of the fight! Walter Mattos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Mattos has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
