Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Stanley Kowalski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cage McCoy! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Edson Gomes and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick misses from McCoy. McCoy shoots in looking for a takedown. Kowalski tries to sprawl out of it but McCoy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kowalski manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. A shot to the body from McCoy misses and Kowalski counters with a shoot takedown. McCoy fights it but they end up in guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kowalski trying to control the position from guard on top but McCoy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McCoy can't keep his opponent in guard - Kowalski advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. McCoy wants to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kowalski is trying to control the action in half guard but McCoy is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. McCoy trying to control here.
Kowalski moves into full mount! McCoy won't be happy about that! Kowalski controlling the pace for now. McCoy tries to hold on but Kowalski pushes him away. McCoy is trying to reverse the position but instead Kowalski has taken his back - oops! I really don't envy McCoy right now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kowalski is persistently looking for the submission but McCoy is defending it well.
Kowalski has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. McCoy is defending well but eventually Kowalski manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! McCoy has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Stanley Kowalski!
