Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlton Goodwin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lorenzo Fonseca! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Emerson Jorge and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Goodwin has taken the fight to the clinch.
Goodwin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Fonseca is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Goodwin successfully pulls guard.
Goodwin keeping moving, preventing Fonseca from controlling successfully. Fonseca wants to get up but he can't break Goodwin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Goodwin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Goodwin keeping moving, preventing Fonseca from controlling successfully. Fonseca throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Goodwin works some decent striking defense from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fonseca trying to control but Goodwin is working from the bottom. Fonseca working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Fonseca doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fonseca manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Fonseca trying to control the position from guard on top but Goodwin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Goodwin shoots for a takedown but Fonseca saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Fonseca darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Fonseca is trying to control the action in half guard but Goodwin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. It looks like Fonseca is going to stand back up.
Goodwin actively working from the bottom here. Fonseca wants to control but Goodwin is keeping him busy. Goodwin keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Goodwin is refusing to be controlled, as Fonseca sits in half guard. Fonseca looks to land a strike but Goodwin avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fonseca wants to control from the top but Goodwin keeps moving. Goodwin is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Fonseca decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Fonseca is keen to just control but Goodwin is a slippery customer. Fonseca sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Goodwin defending well though. Fonseca is looking to stall here but Goodwin recovers full guard. Goodwin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Fonseca drops back, looking for a kneebar! Goodwin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Goodwin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Goodwin!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fonseca can't do much from the bottom here. Goodwin lands a nice forearm strike. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Fonseca is looking to reverse the position. Goodwin cracks Fonseca with an elbow. That is naaassty. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Lorenzo Fonseca will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Goodwin darts in and clinches Fonseca up against the cage. Goodwin tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Fonseca just stands there and leans against the cage. Goodwin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Fonseca gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Fonseca ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Fonseca no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Fonseca is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Fonseca looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Goodwin puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Fonseca is looking to get back to full guard here but Goodwin has managed to pass to side control instead. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fonseca tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Goodwin presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Fonseca tries to control Goodwin's body but Goodwin pushes him off. Fonseca squirms to his side and now Goodwin has his back!
That's one minute gone in the round. Fonseca is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Fonseca rolls, trying to escape but Goodwin keeps control of the position.

Fonseca tries to improve position but can't. Fonseca is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fonseca takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Fonseca looking for a sweep but Goodwin has passed into full mount! Oh no! Goodwin landing punches. Fonseca is bucking up trying to escape but Goodwin cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Fonseca is looking to improve his position but Goodwin isn't that keen on the idea. Goodwin has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Fonseca's face.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Goodwin looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Goodwin landing punches. Goodwin is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Fonseca can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Fonseca is in all sorts of trouble here.
BOOM! Goodwin connects with a massive shot to the dome!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Goodwin punishing his opponent with strikes. Goodwin breaks from Fonseca's wrist control and lands an elbow. Goodwin with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Fonseca tries to control Goodwin's body but Goodwin pushes him off. Fonseca squirms to his side and now Goodwin has his back! Goodwin really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Fonseca. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's better than Fonseca was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fonseca wants to lay and pray for a moment but Goodwin keeps working. Goodwin can't do much from the bottom here. Goodwin is trying to escape and get back to his feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fonseca sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Goodwin is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Goodwin manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Fonseca seems to be working for a kimura but Goodwin defends the submission attempt. Carlton Goodwin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Fonseca not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Fonseca keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Fonseca darts in and clinches Goodwin up against the cage. Fonseca manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Goodwin lands a couple of decent looking shots. Fonseca trying to control the position.
Fonseca is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Goodwin dives into side control.

Fonseca manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Goodwin wants to get back to his feet. Fonseca is stalling here. Goodwin is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Fonseca seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Goodwin has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Goodwin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Fonseca has escaped the position, nice work there. Goodwin looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fonseca looks to move to half guard but instead Goodwin has passed into mount! Damn! Goodwin controlling from the full mount. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Goodwin is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Fonseca has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! Lorenzo Fonseca comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Fonseca has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
