PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Akbar Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Tuscan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Akbar Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Tuscan!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tuscan clinches with his opponent.
Tuscan should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Jr fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Tuscan tries to land knees in the clinch but Jr avoids the damage to the body.
Tuscan effectively controlling the action here.
Tuscan told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.

Jr misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Tuscan.
Tuscan using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Jr has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

It looks like John Tuscan has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jr jumps guard but Tuscan turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Jr is trying to drag Tuscan to the mat but Tuscan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Jr jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Tuscan walks away with a smile on his face. Jr gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Jr misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Tuscan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jr paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jr fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tuscan manages to avoid it.

Jr's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Both fighters working to control the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tuscan misses with an elbow strike.
Tuscan is struggling to control the position.
Jr wants to get back to striking at distance but Tuscan won't allow it.
Jr is trying to pull guard but Tuscan has him pressed against the cage.

Jr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tuscan lands with a nice combination. Jr backs away looking to recover.
Tuscan tries to clinch up.

Tuscan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Tuscan lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Akbar Jr has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tuscan lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Tuscan throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Jr blocks it with crossed arms.
Jr effectively controlling the action here.
Jr's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Tuscan stalls.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Tuscan slows down the pace here.
Tuscan landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Jr is breathing heavily.
Tuscan working some nice short punches in the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Tuscan throws an elbow but misses.
Tuscan pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Tuscan stalling the fight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by John Tuscan.
Jr throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tuscan's waist but Tuscan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jr off to one side.
Tuscan tries to clinch up but Jr circles away and keeps his distance.
John Tuscan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jr swats away the attempt to clinch by Tuscan.
Tuscan with a jab.
Jr closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Jr gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Tuscan counters with a three punch combo that has Jr backing up. Jr nods at Tuscan to acknowledge the strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Tuscan dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Tuscan manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Jr is rocked!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jr is pressed against the cage. Tuscan pushes back and unleashes a big elbow that really hurts Jr! Two more big strikes from Tuscan and Jr crumples to the mat and taps out furiously due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). John Tuscan!
