PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Morys Bankowski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Mcgregor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Bankowski might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Rocket Man. The key to victory for Morys Bankowski has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Morys Bankowski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cain Mcgregor!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bankowski throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mcgregor sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Mcgregor has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Bankowski is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Bankowski fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mcgregor takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Mcgregor just misses with a punch to the body.
Mcgregor shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.


It looks like Cain Mcgregor has been cut.
Mcgregor wants to clinch.
Bankowski missing with a left hand there. Mcgregor was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Mcgregor shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mcgregor was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Morys Bankowski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A slow jab from Bankowski misses its intended target.
Mcgregor is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mcgregor uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bankowski.
Mcgregor dives in for a single leg takedown but Bankowski sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Bankowski throws a hook to the side of Mcgregor's head but Mcgregor sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Bankowski lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Mcgregor feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

and Mcgregor counters with a single leg into guard. Bankowski didn't expect that.
Mcgregor is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcgregor is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Bankowski looks to land a combination but Mcgregor avoids it well.

Mcgregor bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bankowski is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mcgregor asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bankowski is letting Mcgregor control him for a moment.

Let's hope that Mcgregor has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Cain Mcgregor has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mcgregor wants to control but Bankowski is keeping him busy.
Mcgregor in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Mcgregor advances nicely into full mount.
Mcgregor has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mcgregor has hold of Bankowski's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Bankowski manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Mcgregor takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Mcgregor is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Bankowski to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Bankowski shrugs it off.
Mcgregor works his way to his opponent's back.

Mcgregor is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Mcgregor gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Bankowski.

Bankowski rushes Mcgregor and presses him up against the cage.
Mcgregor tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bankowski wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Mcgregor drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Bankowski gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Mcgregor fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bankowski sprawls well initially but Mcgregor persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Mcgregor is looking for a kimura but Bankowski is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mcgregor to get the leverage.

Bankowski bucks up and tries to throw Mcgregor off but instead Mcgregor has got his back!
