Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Vegata!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Sobral!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sobral misses with a left hand
letting Vegata counter with a right hand.
Vegata connects with a body shot.
Sobral misses with a straight right.
Sobral avoids a punch combination nicely.
Vegata moves away from the strike by Sobral.
Vegata is looking to counter the offense by Sobral and move into the clinch.

Vegata tries to sprawl but Sobral drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Sobral not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Sobral working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Sobral tries to pass to full mount but Vegata defends it.
Sobral looks to land a strike but Vegata avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Vegata looking for a sweep. Not yet Vegata, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vegata keeping moving, preventing Sobral from controlling successfully.
Sobral with a flurry of punches that miss.

Sobral drops back looking for a leg! Vegata is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vegata manages to kick Sobral off! Sobral jumps back into Vegata's guard.
Sobral pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Vegata is keeping the position for now.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Vegata can't keep his opponent in guard - Sobral advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sobral sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Vegata defending well though.
Sobral looks to land a strike but Vegata avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Sobral seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sobral throws an elbow that misses. Vegata uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sobral's guard. Nice move by Vegata!

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Sobral controls Vegata momentarily but Vegata frees himself.
Sobral wants to sweep but no luck.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Vegata got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sobral has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Vegata has managed to get both his arms back between Sobral's legs - danger averted.

Sobral is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Vegata is aware though and is defending well.

Sobral looking for a guillotine here but Vegata defends easily.
Sobral wants to sweep but no luck.
Sobral managing to control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sobral fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sobral throws a body punch but Vegata moves out of range.
Sobral smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Vegata looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Vegata takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Sobral throws the left hand but Vegata avoids the punch easily.
Sobral throws a looping overhand right but Vegata ducks down to avoid it.
Vegata wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Vegata looks for the body kick but Sobral saw that one coming.
Sobral scores with a nice strike.


It looks like Antonio Vegata has been cut.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Vegata closes the distance and clinches.

Sobral breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sobral scores with a nice right hand.
Sobral misses with a straight left.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Julio Sobral dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Antonio Vegata's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Vegata tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Vegata tries to clinch up but Sobral circles away and keeps his distance.
Sobral drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Vegata defends it well.
Vegata doesn't manage to clinch there - Sobral circles away.
Antonio Vegata is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Vegata goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Sobral misses with a hook. Vegata ducked under it nicely.
A cross from Sobral lands.
Vegata displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sobral throws out the jab.
Sobral connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Vegata tumbling to the canvas! Sobral pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Vegata was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Julio Sobral!
A relieved looking Julio Sobral thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
