PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jorg Buttgereit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Butch Hoffman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoffman has chosen Judas Priest - Painkiller as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jorg Buttgereit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Butch Hoffman!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Lou da Vinci and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buttgereit is looking to clinch.
Buttgereit looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hoffman is fending him off so far but Buttgereit persists. Nope, Hoffman circles away and we're back to standing.
Hoffman throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Hoffman scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Buttgereit keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Buttgereit tries to close the distance and clinch but Hoffman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A clash of legs there as Buttgereit blocks the low kick.

Buttgereit feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hoffman tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Buttgereit wants to get up but he can't break Hoffman's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Buttgereit might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Buttgereit is looking to work some ground and pound but Hoffman has wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buttgereit won't allow Hoffman to sweep him here.
Hoffman keeps trying to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hoffman is controlling Buttgereit's posture.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hoffman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Butch Hoffman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Buttgereit has a takedown stuffed.
Buttgereit has a takedown stuffed.
Hoffman steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Buttgereit.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jorg Buttgereit. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hoffman misses the jab.
Buttgereit takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Buttgereit has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Hoffman finds it's way round the side to connect with Buttgereit's head.
Buttgereit needs to keep his hands up - Hoffman had a free shot at his head there.
Hoffman is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Hoffman pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Hoffman scores with a push kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hoffman bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Hoffman slips a jab and a cross from Buttgereit.
Buttgereit closes the distance and clinches up with Hoffman, looking for a takedown. Buttgereit pushes Hoffman against the cage but Hoffman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hoffman lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Hoffman rushes Buttgereit and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Buttgereit working hard to break the clinch.
Buttgereit is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Hoffman is defending well.
A right hand to the body from Hoffman.
Hoffman lands a left hand.
Hoffman gets through Buttgereit's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Hoffman tries to land knees in the clinch but Buttgereit avoids the damage to the body.
Knees to the body from Hoffman.
Buttgereit is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hoffman pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Buttgereit is breathing heavily.
Buttgereit jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hoffman walks away with a smile on his face. Buttgereit gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Hoffman fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Buttgereit looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Hoffman drops Buttgereit with a naaaaasty hook - Buttgereit is in real trouble here! Hoffman dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Butch Hoffman!
In his post fight interview, Butch Hoffman started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
