PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Igor Protti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Protti comes to the cage accompanied by Inno Livorno . Liddell has chosen It's Dark and Hell Is Hot as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Igor Protti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 41 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chuck Liddell!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Wagner Zegers and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Liddell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Protti swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Liddell walks into a straight right hand from Protti.


It looks like Chuck Liddell has been cut.
Protti darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Liddell misses with a wild body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Liddell lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.


It looks like Igor Protti has been cut.
A telegraphed right hand from Liddell misses the target.
Protti is looking to counter punch.
Liddell takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Liddell gets a takedown into half guard.
Nice strikes from Liddell there.
Protti trying to hold on to Liddell's head to control him but Liddell postures up.
Protti knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Liddell on the ground.
Liddell slows the pace down in half guard.
Liddell works his way into side control.
Liddell prevents Protti from escaping the position.
Protti tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Liddell wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Protti is trying to control Liddell's posture but Liddell avoids it.

Liddell remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Liddell working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Protti wants to get back to his feet but Liddell drags him back down.

Protti is trying to control Liddell's posture but Liddell avoids it.
Liddell moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Protti is looking for a sweep.

Protti is trying to get back to half guard.
Liddell is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Protti is looking to regain half guard here but Liddell keeps moving and retains side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Liddell stands up.
Igor Protti is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Liddell rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Protti counters with a stiff right hand.
Liddell tries for a takedown but Protti sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Chuck Liddell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Protti takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Liddell, right into the meat.
Liddell scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Liddell gets a clinch.
Liddell wants to take the fight to the mat but Protti manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Igor Protti has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chuck Liddell.
Protti is trying to break the clinch but Liddell is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Liddell dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Protti enables Liddell to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Protti manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Liddell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Liddell prevents Protti from getting back to his feet.
Protti wants to sweep but no luck.
Liddell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Liddell won't allow Protti to sweep him here.
Protti keeping full guard, as Liddell tries to pass.
Protti wants to stand but Liddell is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Protti is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Liddell stops Protti from standing up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Protti throws an off balance right hand
and Liddell counters with a nice leg kick.

Liddell has taken the fight to the clinch.

Liddell jumps guard.
Protti wants to stand and escape but instead Liddell has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Liddell pushing down on Protti's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Liddell lands strikes from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Liddell is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Protti!
Liddell moves to the back position.
Liddell is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Chuck Liddell has got the better of the ground game so far.
Liddell is not going to allow Protti to sit and survive in this position.

Liddell is working the ground and pound. Can Protti escape?
Protti trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Protti tries to escape but Liddell has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Liddell looking for the choke but no joy.
Protti trying to control the hands but Liddell breaks the grip.

Liddell working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Protti is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Liddell has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Protti taps out!
