Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reed moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Smith seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Reed leaves Smith with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Reed slips under a jab from Smith.
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Reed moves away.
Smith looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Reed misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Smith throws a leg kick
and Reed counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Smith misses with a two punch combination.
Smith dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reed gets caught flat footed, as Smith shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Reed has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Reed shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smith pinned against the cage. Smith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Reed avoids a punch combination nicely.
Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Reed drives through and clinches with Smith against the cage.
Smith blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith manages to break the clinch.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown but Reed manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smith's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Smith stuns Reed with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Smith tries to bum rush Reed with a series of wild strikes but Reed uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Horrible takedown attempt by Reed or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith, which made it look bad.

Reed flicks out a counter leg kick but Smith steps away.

Smith lands a couple of good shots and Reed has given up his back, trying to escape the position!


Reed is rocked!
A helpless look comes across Reed 's face. He knows he's trapped as Smith lands a series of unanswered strikes. The ref steps in to stop the fight and this one is in the books!
