Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rez Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cavan Cartwright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cortez comes to the cage accompanied by Can We Still Be Friends. Cartwright has chosen The Irish Fighting Song as his entrance music. Rez Cortez could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Cavan Cartwright's chin.

The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez just misses with a punch to the body.
Cortez misses with a wild body shot.
Cortez tries to bum rush Cartwright with a series of wild strikes but Cartwright uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cortez misses with a two punch combination.
Cortez looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Cartwright shoots in looking for a takedown. Cortez tries to sprawl out of it but Cartwright keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cortez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Cortez throws a jab when Cartwright was well out of range.
Cartwright takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Rez Cortez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cartwright manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Cortez on his heels. He'll look to pass Cortez's guard now, I'm sure.

Cortez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cartwright wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Cartwright is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cortez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cortez is looking for a sweep.
Cortez wants to control but Cartwright postures up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cartwright creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Cortez sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Cartwright shoots in looking for a takedown but Cortez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cartwright's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Cortez looks to throw the jab but Cartwright is out of range.
Cartwright wants to counter with a clinch but Cortez pushes him away.
Cortez misses with an uppercut.
Cortez uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Cartwright has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Cartwright moves away from the strike by Cortez.
Cartwright is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Cortez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Cortez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cartwright on the ground.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Cartwright. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Cartwright drops back looking for a leg! Cortez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cortez manages to kick Cartwright off! Cartwright jumps back into Cortez's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
