PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ron Artest (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Druff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Artest's entrance music is Champion- Ron Artest Feat T-Pain. A fine choice. Druff has chosen Awol Nation - Sail as his entrance music. Ron Artest has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Ron Artest!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Dan Druff!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Artest throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Artest fails in his attempt to clinch.

Druff fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Artest to the ground. Druff is now in Artest's guard.
Artest will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Artest preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Artest is trying to control the position but Druff postures up.
Druff postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Druff wants to control from the top but Artest keeps moving.
Artest utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Druff's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Druff is working Artest over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Druff throwing strikes from guard but Artest blocks nicely.

Druff distracts Artest with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Druff seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Druff stands up over Artest, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Druff trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Druff lands a couple of digs.
Druff in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Druff has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Druff working his ground and pound in the gym.
Druff throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Druff is in close to Artest's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Artest on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Artest tries to get out of the position.
Druff throws a big right hand that misses.
Druff throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Artest works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Druff lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Artest stuffs the takedown attempt from Druff. Druff gets slowly back to his feet.

Druff fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Artest sprawls well initially but Druff persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Artest knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Druff on the ground.
Artest is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Artest is working hard here to advance position.
Druff wants to pass the guard but Artest is defending well.

Artest is staying active underneath Druff, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Druff scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Druff is nestled in close to Artest, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Druff is keen to just control but Artest is a slippery customer.
Druff thows a huge punch but Artest dodges it nicely.
Druff throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Artest tries to roll over but Druff keeps him under control.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Druff is trying to control the action in half guard but Artest is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Druff thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Druff drops an elbow to the side of Artest's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Druff dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Artest moves into the clinch successfully.
Artest tries a body shot but Druff blocks it.
Artest lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Druff backwards.


It looks like Dan Druff has been cut.
Artest is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Druff is defending well for now.
Druff is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Artest gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Artest tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Artest struggles to land a body shot inside as Druff controls his hands.
Druff is looking to take this one to the mat.
Artest lands a shoulder strike.
Druff has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Artest misses with a body punch.
Druff tries for a takedown. No joy.
Ron Artest has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Druff.
Druff has Artest pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Artest manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Artest lands a good knee to the midsection. Druff won't want to take too many of those.

That has opened up Dan Druff's cut even more.
Artest comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Druff is still on wobbly legs! Can Artest finish him?
Artest lands a damaging elbow.


The cut above Dan Druff's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Artest landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Artest dips a shoulder and cracks Druff with a mighty uppercut! Druff falls back against the cage and Artest unloads with a barrage of strikes! Druff is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Artest screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ron Artest!
