The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masny swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Belanger leaves Masny with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Masny fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Belanger checks it well.
Masny has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Montreal Elite Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Masny loads up on a big right hand but Belanger slips the punch.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Belanger tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Michael Belanger seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice takedown defense from Masny. No joy for Belanger on that attempt.

Masny bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Masny is working for a kimura but Belanger is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Belanger works his way to full guard. Good work.

Belanger really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Masny. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Belanger is on top in guard.

Belanger is in close to Masny's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Masny has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Belanger can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Masny controls Belanger momentarily but Belanger frees himself.
Belanger must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Masny seems keen to control Belanger's posture.
Masny is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mike Masny spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
