PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dominic Berzins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julius Octavius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Julius Octavius was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dominic Berzins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Julius Octavius!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Berzins tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Octavius throws a fast counter high kick but Berzins manages to duck under it in time.
Berzins tries to land a front kick but Octavius steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Berzins with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Octavius throws a head kick that misses.
Berzins throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Octavius sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Octavius misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Berzins looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Octavius shoots for a double leg takedown but Berzins sprawls well. He's pushed Octavius's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A counter left hand to the body from Berzins misses its target.
Octavius throws a sloppy head kick and Berzins moves out of range easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That kick from Berzins tenderised Octavius's leg. Octavius is trying to keep his angry face on.
Berzins misses with a straight right.
Octavius throws the kick towards the body but Berzins avoids it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Berzins swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Octavius looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Berzins throws a head kick but Octavius moves out of range.
Berzins misses with a leg kick
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Octavius has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Octavius is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

and Octavius counters with an inside leg kick.

and Berzins counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.


It looks like Julius Octavius has been cut.
Berzins lands a nice hook to Octavius's body. Octavius takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

and Octavius counters with an outside leg kick.
Octavius tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Berzins feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Octavius on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

A jab from Berzins finds it's way through Octavius's defenses.

Octavius tries to land a leg kick but Berzins saw it coming and moves away.
Octavius is still on wobbly legs! Can Berzins finish him?
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Berzins missing with a left hand there. Octavius was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Octavius tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Octavius seems to have recovered his senses.
Octavius connects with a solid leg kick.
Berzins throws a quick inside leg kick.
A head kick misses from Octavius.

Berzins cracks a nice hook into Octavius's ribs.
Berzins tries to clinch but Octavius is having none of it.

Octavius blocks a leg kick.
Octavius with the counter takedown but Berzins avoids it easily.
Berzins scores with the left hand. Octavius knows he should have avoided that one.
Berzins takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Dominic Berzins is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Berzins throws a lazy right hand but Octavius sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Crunch! Octavius slams his shin into Berzins's torso.

Berzins misses with a double jab.
Octavius tries a quick counter leg kick but Berzins is wise to it.
Berzins lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Octavius scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Octavius tries for a takedown but Berzins circles away easily

and Berzins counters with a nice right hand that sends Octavius toppling to the canvas! Octavius scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Berzins finish him?!
Dominic Berzins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julius Octavius.
Octavius will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Berzins misses the shot to the body.
Berzins misses with an uppercut. Octavius saw that one coming.
Octavius steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Octavius finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Berzins is looking for a counter combo.
Berzins lands a right hook to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dominic Berzins dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Julius Octavius's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Octavius lands with a slapping head kick.
Berzins lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Octavius explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Octavius scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Berzins is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Pro Era Elite Training Facility , so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Berzins is trying to control Octavius's posture but Octavius avoids it.
Berzins is looking for a sweep.

Octavius is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Berzins is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Octavius passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Berzins!

Octavius looking to isolate an arm here. Berzins doesn't see it coming and as Octavius extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Octavius!
