Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Donnie Datsik! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dick Stern! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Datsik. Datsik darts in looking for a takedown but Stern gets double underhooks and turns Datsik into the cage. Datsik tries a head kick but it misses.
Datsik uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Stern. Datsik has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Stern. Stern has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Datsik scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Nice strikes from Datsik there. Stern is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Datsik scores with a couple of nice shots. Datsik not landing any meaningful shots this time. Stern is controlling Datsik's trapped leg to prevent Datsik from advancing to side control. Stern wants to get back to full guard. Datsik sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Stern defending well though. Datsik tries to pass the half guard into mount. Stern knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stern trying to control from the bottom.
Datsik content to control rather than advance. Stern wants to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stern on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Datsik is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Datsik wants to take a breather but Stern is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Datsik throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Stern to regain full guard. Stern looking to control.
Datsik advances position into side control! Datsik definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Datsik misses with the ground and pound. Stern tries to bench press Datsik off him but Datsik keeps the position. Datsik scores with a couple of short elbows. Datsik wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stern keeps working. Datsik cracks Stern with a big elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Datsik trying to control the position but Stern is working away. Datsik scores with a couple of short elbows.
It looks like Dick Stern has been cut. Datsik in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Stern dodges the ground and pound from Datsik. Datsik lands a decent elbow from side control.
Stern is rocked! Datsik lands a strong strike to the head of Stern. That's dazed him! Datsik looking to finish here. Stern is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Datsik lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Donnie Datsik! During a confident post fight interview, Donnie Datsik thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
