PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Gotti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by I'd Love to Knock the Hell out of You by Hank Williams, Jr. The key to victory for Jimmy Gotti has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimmy Gotti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gotti throws a right and a left that both miss.

Ryan darts in and clinches Gotti up against the cage.

Ryan gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Ryan is looking for a kimura but Gotti is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ryan to get the leverage.
Ryan thows a huge punch but Gotti dodges it nicely.

Ryan seems to be working for a kimura but Gotti defends the submission attempt.

Ryan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gotti is just riding it out for now. Ryan eventually gives up the hold.
Gotti knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ryan on the ground.

Ryan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gotti defends it well.

Ryan is trying to work for a kimura but Gotti is defending well.
Ryan throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ryan thows a huge punch but Gotti dodges it nicely.
Gotti is looking for a sweep. Ryan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Ryan wants to work for an arm triangle but Gotti is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Ryan seems to be looking for submissions.
Gotti is looking to improve his position.
Gotti might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Ryan is trying to work for a kimura but Gotti is defending well.

My spies in LOD: Stockton Cardio inform me that Ryan has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Ryan seems to be looking for submissions.
Ryan lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Gotti makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gotti.
Gotti wants to get back to his feet but Ryan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ryan trying to control the position from guard on top but Gotti is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gotti wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Ryan is now in half guard.
Ryan content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Ryan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gotti defends it well.

Ryan is working for a kimura but Gotti is defending it quite comfortably.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ryan uses his free foot to push down on Gotti's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gotti.

Gotti throws a sloppy head kick and Ryan moves out of range easily.
Ryan is trying hard to land a takedown here. Gotti sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ryan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gotti but Gotti pushes him off and we're back to square one.

It looked like Gotti was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ryan shoots in looking for a takedown. Gotti tries to sprawl out of it but Ryan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gotti manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gotti swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Gotti throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ryan.
Ryan lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Gotti uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ryan.
Gotti throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Ryan looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ryan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gotti swivels and escapes.
Ryan throws a head kick but Gotti moves out of range.
Gotti throws a sloppy head kick and Ryan moves out of range easily.
Ryan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gotti.
Gotti lands with a thumping leg kick.
Ryan misses with a takedown attempt
and Gotti counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Daniel Ryan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ryan fails to land the takedown.
As Ryan looks to move away, Gotti throws a big counter combo bu Ryan just gets out of the way.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Gotti, as that shot connected.

Gotti moves forwards but Ryan connects with a nice, crisp jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ryan is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Gotti can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Ryan goes for an armbar but Gotti turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Gotti.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jimmy Gotti will probably get the nod.

Ryan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gotti sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ryan somewhat.

Gotti tries to bum rush Ryan with a series of wild strikes but Ryan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

A very excited looking Daniel Ryan rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
