The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Garrett has managed to clinch.
Patterson gets underhooks to prevent Garrett's takedown attempt.

Patterson wants the takedown. Garrett is fighting it off but Patterson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Garrett's guard against the cage.
Patterson wants to control from the top but Garrett keeps moving.
Garrett wants to sweep here but Patterson controlling him for the moment.
Garrett is looking to sweep but instead, Patterson has passed into half guard.

Patterson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Garrett is trying to stand.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Garrett tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Patterson defends well and Garrett ends up having to push Patterson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Patterson wants to counter with a clinch but Garrett pushes him away.

Garrett closes the distance and clinches.

Patterson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Patterson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Garrett accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Patterson wants to sweep here but Garrett controlling him for the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Patterson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Garrett to the ground. Patterson is now in Garrett's guard.

Garrett tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Garrett can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Patterson controls the pace.
Patterson passes Garrett's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Patterson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Garrett defends it well.

Patterson looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Patterson tries to free his leg and advance position but Garrett is retaining full guard.

Patterson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Garrett!
Patterson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Garrett is not content to let Patterson control the position.

Patterson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Garrett goes for a double leg but Patterson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Patterson continues to drive forward.

Patterson lands a big head kick that sends Garrett tumbling to the mat! Patterson takes a step backwards and waves Garrett back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Garrett is rocked!

It looks like Maria Garrett has been cut.
Patterson digs a good body shot into Garrett's ribs.
Oh Garrett is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Patterson lands a huge takedown. Garrett is out but the ref is slow to react and Patterson lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Garrett lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.
