Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mitch Castro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cory Syx! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Syx does no damage. Castro avoids the head kick by Syx.
Castro feinted with a counter takedown. Syx fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
It looks like Mitch Castro has been cut. Syx will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Castro swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Syx pushes Castro up against the cage in a clinch. Castro misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Syx is trying to break free. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Syx wants to take the fight to the mat but Castro manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Syx is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Syx keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Castro's efforts to push away. Castro tries to land knees in the clinch but Syx avoids the damage to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Syx breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Castro closes this distance looking for a takedown but Syx circles away. Syx fakes the leg kick and cracks Castro in the body. Castro avoids the head kick by Syx.
Syx lands a big head kick that sends Castro to the canvas! Syx follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cory Syx! Cory Syx seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
