Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
25 - 31 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Skantze Jr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Split Rush! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rush shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Skantze Jr feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Rushs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Rush just misses with a punch to the body.
Rush fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Skantze Jr stuffs the takedown. John Skantze Jr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Split Rush. Skantze Jr throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Rush on the side of the head. Skantze Jr scores with a nice right hand.
Rush shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rush showed some decent athleticism there. Skantze Jr taking some punishment here, with Rush in his half guard. Rush scores with a couple of good hammerfists. This has been an exciting period of action! Rush lands strikes from half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice strikes from Rush there. Rush working over Skantze Jr with some ground and pound. Skantze Jr looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Skantze Jr looking for a kimura from the bottom but Rush passes into side control! Rush scores with a couple of short elbows. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rush working the head and body with strikes. Rush lands some shots froms side control. Skantze Jr taking punishment in the form of punches.
Skantze Jr tries to buck Rush off but Rush is having none of it. Skantze Jr takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Rush has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Rush raining down hammerfists from mount. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rush won't let Skantze Jr get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Rush fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The referee warns Skantze Jr that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Rush lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Skantze Jr slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Rush is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Rush lands strikes from half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rush missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Rush trying to control from half guard but Skantze Jr is working away. Rush winds up and cracks Skantze Jr with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Skantze Jr looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Nice strikes from Rush there. That's four minutes gone in the round. Rush wants to control but Skantze Jr is keeping him busy. My spies in Montreal Elite Gym inform me that Rush has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Rush working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Skantze Jr's thigh. Skantze Jr counters though and makes it back to full guard. Skantze Jr escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rush gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Skantze Jr working for submissions but it's allowed Rush to get to half guard.

Split Rush dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Skantze Jr manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Rush scoring with some ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Skantze Jr escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rush gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Skantze Jr is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rush is aware though and is defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rush stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Skantze Jr swivels though and keeps the full guard. Rush forces his way into half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rush connects with a nice short shot to Skantze Jr's temple. Skantze Jr has hold of Rush's hands but Rush slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Rush lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Rush stops Skantze Jr from getting back to his feet.
Rush drops an elbow to the side of Skantze Jr's head. Rush sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Skantze Jr defending well though. Rush seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Rush is looking to take a break and control but Skantze Jr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Skantze Jr moves into full guard.
Rush must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Skantze Jr is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rush is aware though and is defending well. Skantze Jr looking for a triangle here. Rush is fighting it but it looks tight! Skantze Jr pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Rush is tapping out - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). John Skantze Jr! John Skantze Jr took to the mic in his post fight interview and said 'where you at MASAHIKO KIMURA? les fight!'.
