PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tyberius Furiusz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lubek Boyko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tyberius Furiusz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lubek Boyko!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boyko shoots in and gets a takedown into Furiusz's guard.
Boyko missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Furiusz wants to get back to his feet but Boyko is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Boyko accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Boyko looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Boyko trying to control but Furiusz is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boyko is looking to work some ground and pound but Furiusz has wrist control.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Boyko accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Boyko pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Furiusz is keeping the position for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Boyko digs a good hook to Furiusz's body.
Furiusz looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Boyko moves into the clinch successfully.
A frustrated look appears on Furiusz's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Boyko lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Furiusz misses with an elbow strike.
Furiusz is trying to break free.
Furiusz tries to circle away but Boyko has him pinned against the cage.

Boyko is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Boyko has Furiusz pressed against the cage, preventing Furiusz from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Furiusz is trying to break the clinch but Boyko is controlling him.

Furiusz pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Furiusz is trying to push Boyko away but Boyko has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Furiusz is trying to force a seperation but Boyko has the dominant position.

Boyko has hold of one of Furiusz's legs. Furiusz is fighting the takedown attempt but Boyko gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Boyko wants to control but Furiusz is keeping him busy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boyko digs a good body shot into Furiusz's ribs.
Furiusz tries to move into range but Boyko moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Boyko will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
It looked like Furiusz was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Boyko has managed to clinch.
Boyko has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Furiusz just misses with a elbow thrown towards Boyko's brow.

Boyko throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Furiusz tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Boyko is in Furiusz's guard.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Boyko. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Boyko swings around for an armbar but Furiusz sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Boyko's guard.
Furiusz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Furiusz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boyko has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Furiusz has managed to get both his arms back between Boyko's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lubek Boyko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Furiusz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Boyko feints a jab promting Furiusz to slip. Boyko then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Furiusz slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Boyko lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Furiusz looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Boyko's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Furiusz wants to get back to striking at distance but Boyko won't allow it.
Boyko lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Furiusz backwards.

Furiusz can't break the clinch.
Boyko manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Boyko has Furiusz pressed against the cage, preventing Furiusz from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Boyko gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Furiusz avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Boyko lands a couple of elbows.
Boyko stays in close to Furiusz's body and controls the position.
Boyko postures up in Furiusz's guard and throws a big left but Furiusz blocks it.

Boyko content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Boyko seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Lubek Boyko comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Boyko has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
