Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cedric Murphy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Michael D Amato! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Franklyn Lucas and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Murphy scores with a crisp jab that stopped D Amato in his tracks. Murphy moves out of range as D Amato strikes. Nice uppercut lands for Murphy. That snapped D Amato's head back.
That kick from Murphy tenderised D Amato's leg. D Amato is trying to keep his angry face on. Murphy throws a head kick but D Amato moves out of range.
D Amato unleashes a big counter combination but Murphy bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. D Amato moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Cedric Murphy has been cut. Murphy tries to clinch but fails miserably and D Amato counters with a nice body shot. D Amato throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Murphy. Murphy throwing a counter right hand but D Amato manages to avoid it. We've been told by Murphy's head coaches at Xtreme HGH Fight Club that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Jab, jab by Murphy - just one landing. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Murphy staying out of range there. Murphy takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Murphy scores with a decent looking hook. The fighters circling - D Amato throws out the jab but it was never going to land. D Amato jabbing away but nothing is landing. Murphy is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Murphy with a hook. Murphy is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. D Amato looks to land a left hand but Murphy moved out of range nicely. D Amato shoots in looking for a takedown but Murphy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing D Amato's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. D Amato walks into a stiff left hand from Murphy. Nice takedown defense from Murphy. No joy for D Amato on that attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Murphy swinging wildly here.
D Amato closes the distance and clinches up with Murphy, looking for a takedown. D Amato pushes Murphy against the cage but Murphy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Cedric Murphy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael D Amato. Murphy avoids a lazy jab quite easily. It looked like Murphy wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Murphy goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Murphy connects with a solid leg kick. D Amato steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Murphy. Murphy throws a hook but D Amato blocks it. Murphy misses the shot to the body. It seemed like D Amato was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. D Amato is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent. Murphy throws a sloppy head kick and D Amato moves out of range easily. Murphy misses with a leg kick and D Amato counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Murphy misses with a low kick as D Amato jumps back. D Amato thuds his right hand into Murphy's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Murphy connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between D Amato's hands. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. D Amato walks into a stiff left hand from Murphy. Murphy staying out of range there. D Amato on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Murphy. Murphy obviously looking to wear him down.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A jab from Murphy does it's job there. D Amato uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Murphy. Murphy fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
D Amato throws out a counter right but Murphy avoids it with no problem. D Amato has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. A punch lands to the side of D Amato 's head but he takes it in his stride. D Amato's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Murphy connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! D Amato scrambles back to his feet. Murphy cracks D Amato with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Murphy has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning D Amato to stand back up!
D Amato is rocked! Murphy cracks D Amato with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends D Amato tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Murphy pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! D Amato is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cedric Murphy! After winning the bout, Cedric Murphy thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
