Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shin Dong Hyuk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dorian Yates! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Anthony Taglia and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yates connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Dong Hyuk momentarily.
Yates throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Dong Hyuk on the side of the head. Dong Hyuk tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Yates paws at him with a jab and circles away. Dong Hyuk blocks a jab. Dong Hyuk takes the fight into the clinch. Dong Hyuk jumps guard.
Yates stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dong Hyuk swivels though and keeps the full guard. Yates trying to control but Dong Hyuk is working from the bottom. Yates looking to pass the guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Dong Hyuk holds on and takes a little breather. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Yates works a leg free and moves into half guard. Yates wants to free his trapped foot but Dong Hyuk is holding on for dear life with his legs. Yates prevents Dong Hyuk from improving his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yates is pressing down on Dong Hyuk's thigh, looking to free his foot. Dong Hyuk is holding on for now. Yates is looking to take a break and control but Dong Hyuk is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Dong Hyuk is looking for a sweep. Yates is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Yates tries to pass to full mount but Dong Hyuk defends it. Dong Hyuk trying to control here.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Dong Hyuk is trying to control the position but Yates postures up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Yates lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Dong Hyuk has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Dong Hyuk and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Dong Hyuk darts in and clinches Yates up against the cage. Yates breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Dong Hyuk has taken the fight to the clinch.
Dong Hyuk tries to break the clinch but Yates is controlling the position. Still in the clinch, Yates scores with a nice short uppercut. I was talking to Dong Hyuk's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Dong Hyuk is trying to pull guard but Yates has him pressed against the cage. Dong Hyuk throws a head punch that misses. Yates lands a left hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yates tries a body shot but Dong Hyuk blocks it.

Yates tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Yates. Yates misses with the head strike.

Yates goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Dong Hyuk tried to counter with a leg kick but Yates avoided it. Dong Hyuk drives through and clinches with Yates against the cage.

Dong Hyuk is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Yates is keeping busy. Yates lands an uppercut.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Yates lands an uppercut. Yates tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Dong Hyuk's elbow. Dong Hyuk manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Dong Hyuk is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Dong Hyuk keeping full guard, as Yates tries to pass. Yates trying to control the position from guard on top but Dong Hyuk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Yates is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Dong Hyuk working a defensive guard here.
Dong Hyuk working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Yates doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Yates manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Yates trying to control the position from guard on top but Dong Hyuk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dorian Yates dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Dong Hyuk wants to clinch. Yates is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Dong Hyuk with a body shot. Dong Hyuk takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

A quick step to the side and Dong Hyuk tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. The fight moves into the clinch position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A nice left hand lands by Yates.

Dong Hyuk tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Yates's elbow. Dong Hyuk's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Yates has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight. Yates rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dong Hyuk moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Dong Hyuk appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - Dong Hyuk looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Dong Hyuk is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Dong Hyuk tries to clinch up. Yates throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Dong Hyuk walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Dorian Yates seems to be getting the better of the standup. Yates lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Dong Hyuk at a distance.

Dong Hyuk scores with a nice hook to the head. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Yates takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Dong Hyuk gets control of Yates's arms and successfully pulls guard. Dong Hyuk will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dong Hyuk keeping moving, preventing Yates from controlling successfully. Yates controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Dong Hyuk is pulling down on Yates's head to control his posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Yates trying to control the position from guard on top but Dong Hyuk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Yates got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dong Hyuk has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Yates has managed to get both his arms back between Dong Hyuk's legs - danger averted. Yates pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dong Hyuk is keeping the position for now. Yates is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dong Hyuk lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Yates is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. No luck so far. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Yates has control of Dong Hyuk's left arm, preventing Dong Hyuk from doing any damage.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Dong Hyuk is looking to clinch but Yates is avoiding it.

Dorian Yates showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Dong Hyuk tries to clinch up but Yates circles away and keeps his distance. As Dong Hyuk backs off Yates throws a huge counter combo but Dong Hyuk manages to avoid it all. The fight moves into the clinch position. Dong Hyuk is trying to stall.

Dong Hyuk looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Dong Hyuk looking to stall.
Dong Hyuk wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Yates has him pressed against the cage.
And that's the end of the fight! Dorian Yates comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Yates winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
