Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrew Stevenson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, King Kong! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Viktor Lagutenko and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kong looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Kong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stevenson keeps working. Kong is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Stevenson sees it coming and defends easily. Kong is keen to just control but Stevenson is a slippery customer. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kong trying to control from Stevenson's half guard. Stevenson has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Stevenson is controlling Kong's posture.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stevenson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Kong is looking to work some ground and pound but Stevenson has wrist control. Kong slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Kong wants to control from the top but Stevenson keeps moving. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Kong stands and steps away. Stevenson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Kong gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Kong wants to sweep but no luck. Stevenson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Kong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stevenson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Kong is tightening it up a little... Stevenson has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Stevenson reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Stevenson taps out! Nice BJJ there by Kong!
