The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Reed. Samson lands a jab to Reed's midsection. Samson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Reed was well out of range. Poor timing from Samson. Reed closes the distance and clinches up with Samson, looking for a takedown. Reed pushes Samson against the cage but Samson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Samson feints the counter takedown. Reed takes a jab right on the kisser.
Reed fails with a takedown attempt. Samson drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Reed defends it well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cyril Reed. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Samson throws a right and a left that both miss. Reed throws a big counter combination but Samson scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. No joy there for Samson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Reed dives in and grabs Samson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Samson pushes down on Reed's head and hops out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Samson lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Samson scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Reed really is a fat lump. Samson lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Reed at a distance.
Nice body punch from Samson. Reed walks into a left hand. Samson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Samson wants it to stay on the feet. Reed's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Samson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Reed scrambles back to his feet. Reed fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Samson sprawls well initially but Reed persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Reed is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Samson wants to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reed sitting and controlling from the half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Reed seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Samson is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
