PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Miki Blue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johan Abenes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Miki Blue!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Johan Abenes!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abenes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Blue is fending him off so far but Abenes persists. Nope, Blue circles away and we're back to standing.

Abenes closes the distance and clinches.
Abenes is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Blue managing to block the knees to the body from Abenes.
Blue prevents a takedown attempt there.
Blue keeps control of Abenes as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Abenes just leaning against Blue, taking a breather.
Abenes avoids a wild elbow strike from Blue.

Abenes decides to pull guard.
Blue sitting in guard here, content to control.
Blue wants to stand and escape but instead Abenes has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Abenes trying to control but Blue is working from the bottom.

Blue tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Blue being controlled here, momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blue pulls Abenes in close to prevent any damage.
Abenes sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Blue is on top in guard.
Abenes not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Abenes is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Blue looking to pass the guard.
Blue wants to control from the top but Abenes keeps moving.
Abenes trying to keep a closed guard but Blue is proving a slippery customer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Abenes is looking for a triangle but Blue pushes his legs off easily.
Blue stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Abenes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Blue wants to control from the top but Abenes keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Abenes tries to clinch up.

Abenes instigates a clinch.
Blue is trying to drag Abenes to the mat but Abenes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Blue throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Abenes decides to pull guard.
Blue trying to control the position from guard on top but Abenes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Blue is really struggling to control Abenes but he's trying to hold on to the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johan Abenes dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Blue shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Blue was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Abenes bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Abenes won't allow Blue to sweep him here.

Blue is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Blue keeping moving, preventing Abenes from controlling successfully.
Abenes advances to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Blue gets full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Blue looking to control but Abenes passes into half guard.
Blue is looking for a sweep. Abenes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Blue wants to control but Abenes is keeping busy.
Blue tries to roll over but Abenes keeps him under control.
Blue is not content to let Abenes control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Abenes passes into side control, despite Blue's attempt to control the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Abenes working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Abenes content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Abenes is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Blue has escaped the position, nice work there.
Blue tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Abenes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Abenes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Blue, who protects the arm well.
Blue is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Abenes off and has taken his back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
A lull in the action here.
Abenes rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Blue trying to control the action but Abenes is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Blue is thwarting Abenes's attempts to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Johan Abenes will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Abenes is looking to clinch.
Miki Blue is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Abenes throws a sloppy head kick and Blue moves out of range easily.
Abenes misses with a jab, cross combination.
Abenes fails with the takedown

and Blue counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Blue passes the guard and advances to mount!
Abenes wants to control but Blue is having none of it.
Blue wants to control the pace but Abenes is squirming around nicely.
Abenes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Abenes has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Blue's lack of action.
Abenes is not content to let Blue control the position.
Blue slows the pace down in half guard.
Abenes is trying to control but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Abenes tries to roll over but Blue keeps him under control.
Blue is taking a breather. Abenes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Abenes is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Blue scores with a couple of nice shots.
Blue wants to free his trapped foot but Abenes is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Blue sitting and controlling from the half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blue throwing shots but Abenes is blocking nicely.
Blue wants to lay and pray for a moment but Abenes keeps working.
Blue performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Miki Blue just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Abenes tries for a takedown but Blue circles away easily

and Blue decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Abenes's guard.
Blue controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blue trying to control the position from guard on top but Abenes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Miki Blue has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Blue looking to sit in guard and control but Abenes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Abenes controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

And that's the end of the fight!
Miki Blue showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Abenes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
