Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Erich Gillespie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Marquez! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gillespie but Gillespie pushes him off and we're back to square one. Gillespie keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Nice takedown defense from Gillespie. No joy for Marquez on that attempt. Erich Gillespie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julio Marquez. Marquez thows a left - swing and a miss! Marquez rushes Gillespie and presses him up against the cage. Gillespie is trying to force a seperation but Marquez has the dominant position. Gillespie has had enough of the clinch but Marquez keeps him there for the moment. A frustrated look appears on Gillespie's face as he tries to break the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gillespie working hard to break the clinch. Gillespie lands a hook that snaps the head of Marquez backwards. Marquez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Marquez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Gillespie with a flurry of punches that miss. Marquez is trying to keep Gillespie in close.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gillespie in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Gillespie is looking to stand up but Marquez won't let him. Marquez has Gillespie pulled in close to control his posture. Gillespie trying to control the position from guard on top but Marquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gillespie throws a big right hand that misses. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Marquez working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Gillespie has passed into half guard!
Marquez is holding on to half guard well. Gillespie stops Marquez from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Gillespie sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Marquez defending well though. Gillespie working over Marquez with some ground and pound. Marquez looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Marquez moves into full guard.
Marquez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gillespie defends well. Marquez wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Gillespie is now in half guard. Gillespie tries to stand but can't do so whilst Marquez controls his leg. Gillespie missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gillespie not landing any meaningful shots this time. Marquez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The fighters are battling for position here. Marquez manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Marquez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Gillespie connects with a couple of short punches. Marquez has momentary wrist control but Gillespie slips an elbow through the middle. The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Gillespie throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Marquez looks to throw the jab but Gillespie is out of range. Gillespie stuffs the takedown. Gillespie half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Marquez looks winded! Marquez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gillespie avoids it really well and circles away. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Gillespie moves into the clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Marquez walks away with a smile on his face. Gillespie gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Gillespie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Marquez shoots in for a takedown but Gillespie shows good takedown defense. Gillespie attempts a counter takedown but Marquez avoids it well and moves away. Erich Gillespie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Marquez is breathing heavily. Gillespie clinches with his opponent.

Marquez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gillespie pinned against the cage. Gillespie gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Gillespie is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Marquez can do to turn this around? Gillespie throws a nice looking combination but Marquez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Gillespie tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Gillespie lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A punch combination from Gillespie misses.

Gillespie has clasped his hands together around Marquez's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Marquez tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad. Marquez tries to hold on but Gillespie pushes him away. Marquez tries to reverse the position but Gillespie maintains control. Gillespie putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! BOOM! Gillespie connects with a massive shot to the dome!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gillespie postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Marquez looks a forlorn figure.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marquez tries to reverse the position but Gillespie maintains control. A nice elbow there by Gillespie. Gillespie landing punches. Gillespie landing strikes from the mount and Marquez is in trouble! Gillespie punishing his opponent with strikes. Marquez taking shots to the head. Gillespie putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Gillespie lands a couple of good shots and Marquez has given up his back, trying to escape the position! Gillespie lands a punch to the side of the head from the back. Marquez grimaces as he takes a shot to the body. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gillespie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Julio Marquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Erich Gillespie is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Marquez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gillespie defends well.
And that's the end of the fight! Erich Gillespie showed his dominance in that final round. Well Gillespie has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
