0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Taglerino! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pablo Antoine! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taglerino looking to score a takedown here. Antoine is defending well but Taglerino drives through and ends up in Antoine's guard. Taglerino loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Taglerino trying to control the position from guard on top but Antoine is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Antoine wants to get back to his feet but Taglerino is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Taglerino has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Antoine has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Taglerino off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Antoine walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Antoine avoids a punch combination nicely.
Antoine throws a hook but Taglerino blocks it. Antoine throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Taglerino changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Pablo Antoine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. No joy there for Taglerino, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Antoine lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. A swing and a miss from Antoine. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Antoine! But no joy. The fighters circle momentarily. Antoine darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. That's four minutes gone in the round. Taglerino is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Taglerino seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Antoine for as long as he can get away with. Antoine utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. We've been informed that Antoine has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Antoine wants to stand up but Taglerino is controlling him. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Taglerino accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Antoine keeping moving, preventing Taglerino from controlling successfully.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Taglerino. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Taglerino, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
