PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vincent Oketch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matsui Takamatsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takamatsu has chosen Dogs of War as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vincent Oketch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Matsui Takamatsu!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Takamatsu forces Oketch back against the cage and clinches.
Takamatsu tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Oketch lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Takamatsu backwards.

Takamatsu is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Oketch can't fight it off and eventually Takamatsu manages to take the fight to the floor. Oketch looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Oketch tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Takamatsu postures up and lands a big shot to Oketch's brow.
Takamatsu looking to sit in guard and control but Oketch gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Takamatsu is trying to keep Oketch in close.
Takamatsu wants to hit a switch here but Oketch passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Takamatsu there!

Oketch is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Takamatsu has managed to escape the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Takamatsu in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Oketch landing strikes from the mount and Takamatsu is in trouble!
Takamatsu sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Takamatsu is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Oketch jumps into side control!
Takamatsu tries to improve position but can't.
Oketch working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Takamatsu looking for a sweep but Oketch has passed into full mount! Oh no!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Takamatsu is trying desperately to improve position.
Oketch lands a big elbow.
Takamatsu felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Oketch tries to control but Takamatsu wriggling away.
Takamatsu tries to lock up and control but Oketch gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Takamatsu keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Oketch is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Takamatsu can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Takamatsu regains half guard.
Takamatsu works his way to full guard. Good work.
Oketch's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Takamatsu manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Oketch manages to get himself to full guard.


Takamatsu stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Oketch throws up his legs and catches Takamatsu in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Takamatsu tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Oketch! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Vincent Oketch!
During a confident post fight interview, Vincent Oketch thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
Matsui Takamatsu spoke after the fight, saying '“Move swift as the Wind and closely-formed as the Wood. Attack like the Fire and be still as the Mountain.” *I moved* emotes a forehead SLAP'.
