Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Gaarlandt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takuji Kawashima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kawashima comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Colossal - Wolfmother kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricardo Gaarlandt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Takuji Kawashima!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kawashima shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gaarlandt defends it nicely.
Gaarlandt throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Gaarlandt stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gaarlandt wants it to stay on the feet.

Gaarlandt tries to land a front kick but Kawashima steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Kawashima is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Kawashima fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gaarlandt to the ground. Kawashima is now in Gaarlandt's guard.
Gaarlandt is looking to stand up but Kawashima isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Kawashima wants to pass the guard but Gaarlandt is keeping the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Kawashima looking to sit in guard and control but Gaarlandt gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kawashima wants to improve his position but Gaarlandt is controlling well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Kawashima is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gaarlandt's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gaarlandt's back!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gaarlandt is trying to stand back up.
Kawashima misses with a punch to the head.

Gaarlandt is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Lock and Roll Grappling Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Kawashima tries to keep control of the position but Gaarlandt is staying busy.

That was a close round but I would say that Ricardo Gaarlandt will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kawashima shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Kawashima stops Gaarlandt from getting back to his feet.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kawashima working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Kawashima thows a huge punch but Gaarlandt dodges it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kawashima is looking to take a break and control but Gaarlandt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gaarlandt wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kawashima shoots in for a takedown but Gaarlandt shows good takedown defense.
Gaarlandt throws a counter high kick but Kawashima was just alert enough to avoid it.
Kawashima changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gaarlandt tries to avoid it but Kawashima manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gaarlandt to the ground. Gaarlandt escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Gaarlandt counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Kawashima dives in for a single leg takedown but Gaarlandt sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.

Kawashima shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gaarlandt sprawls well. Gaarlandt wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kawashima gets slowly back to his feet.

Gaarlandt lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Gaarlandt misses with a head kick.
Gaarlandt is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kawashima can do to turn this around?
Gaarlandt looks for the body kick but Kawashima saw that one coming.
Gaarlandt rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kawashima moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Gaarlandt here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

As Kawashima looks to move away, Gaarlandt throws a big counter combo bu Kawashima just gets out of the way.

Horrible takedown attempt by Kawashima or perhaps it was just good defense by Gaarlandt, which made it look bad.
Kawashima takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Gaarlandt misses with a kick to the body.
And Kawashima tries to counter it with a takedown but Gaarlandt pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Gaarlandt cracks Kawashima with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the ropes! Kawashima falls to his knees and Gaarlandt doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:06 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ricardo Gaarlandt!
Ricardo Gaarlandt thanked the fans post fight for their support.
