PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mary Holt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tucker Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mary Holt had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mary Holt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tucker Smith!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Smith enables Holt to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Smith manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Holt is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smith is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smith has escaped and now he's on top!

Smith trying to control but Holt is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith preventing the sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Holt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Holt looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Holt is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Smith throws a strike but Holt rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Holt slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Holt is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Holt distracts Smith with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Holt drops back looking for a leg! Smith is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smith manages to kick Holt off! Holt jumps back into Smith's guard.
Holt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Smith looking for a sweep. Not yet Smith, not yet.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Holt's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Holt tries to keep at a distance but Smith has taken the fight into the clinch.
Holt is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Smith pulls Holt into guard.
Holt might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Holt slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Holt drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Smith dives on top into guard.

Holt could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Smith looks winded!
Holt wants to sweep here but Smith controlling him for the moment.
We've been informed that Smith has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Holt is controlling Smith's posture.
Holt keeping full guard, as Smith tries to pass.
Holt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Smith is one step ahead there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Holt is adopting a defensive guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mary Holt will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Smith shoots in and bounces Holt off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Smith is fighting to break Holt's control of his arms but Holt is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Holt looking for a sweep. Not yet Holt, not yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Holt has his hands on Smith's head, controlling the position.
Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Holt is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Holt has Smith pulled in close to control his posture.
Holt wants to sweep but no luck.
Holt has control of Smith's left arm, preventing Smith from doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith throws a series of punches but Holt moves out of range.
Holt is looking for a counter combo.
Smith is breathing heavily.

Holt looking to score a takedown here. Smith is defending well but Holt drives through and ends up in Smith's guard.

Holt drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Smith manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Holt has Smith in his guard.

Smith trying to control but Holt is working from the bottom.
Holt is pulling down on Smith's head. It's preventing any offense from Smith, at least for the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Holt is on top in guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Holt's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Smith throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Holt escapes and throws Smith's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Smith is trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Holt controls the position.

Holt looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Holt wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mary Holt dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Smith clinches up against the cage.
Holt has had enough of the clinch but Smith keeps him there for the moment.
Smith is trying to break the clinch but Holt is controlling him.
Holt is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Smith wants the takedown. Holt is fighting it off but Smith persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Holt's guard against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Holt has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Holt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Holt seems keen to control Smith's posture.
Smith postures up.

Holt throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Holt is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.
Smith would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith checks a low kick from Holt.
Smith wants to counter the offense by Holt and move into the clinch position.
Holt turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Holt gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Holt escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Holt has Smith pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Smith checks a leg kick.

Smith pushes Holt up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith is trying to stall.
Holt tries to land a knee to the head but Smith blocks with his arms.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Smith has hold of one of Holt's legs. Holt is fighting the takedown attempt but Smith gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Tucker Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mary Holt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Holt is controlling Smith's posture.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tucker Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Holt has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
