Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Clint Cartwright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Clint Cartwright has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Clint Cartwright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mr Ward!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ward shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cartwright as he jumps to the side.
Cartwright tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ward manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Ward gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Cartwright trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've been hearing that Cartwright has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Ward looking for a sweep. Not yet Ward, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cartwright wants to pass the guard but Ward is keeping the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ward has his foot on Cartwright's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cartwright works his way back into a safe position though.

Ward working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cartwright doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cartwright manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cartwright wants to pass the guard but Ward is keeping the position.

Cartwright drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ward manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cartwright has Ward in his guard.

Cartwright wants to stand up but Ward is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ward is looking for a kimura here.
Ward wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cartwright keeps working.

Cartwright tries to kick Ward off in order to stand up. Ward Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Ward misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Cartwright is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Ward has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Strong like Butterfly. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Ward tries to score with some ground and pound. Cartwright controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Ward working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Ward in side control lands a decent elbow.
Cartwright wants to get back to his feet.
Ward works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ward wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cartwright, who protects the arm well.
Ward tries to score with some ground and pound. Cartwright controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Ward dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Cartwright has managed to clinch.
Cartwright has Ward pressed against the cage, preventing Ward from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Cartwright has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Ward clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Ward tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Ward is trying desperately to improve position.

Ward is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Ward has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Ward wants to hold on but Cartwright pushes him away.
Cartwright lands a heavy elbow.
Cartwright in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Cartwright postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ward looks a forlorn figure.

Ward takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.


Ward is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cartwright lands a big shot to the head and Ward winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Clint Cartwright!
