PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arnie McDougle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steel's entrance music is Ain't No Sunshine. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Arnie McDougle!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steel gets caught flat footed, as McDougle shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
McDougle throws a big right hand that misses.
Steel keeping full guard, as McDougle tries to pass.
Steel wants to get back to his feet but McDougle is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
McDougle throws an elbow that misses. Steel uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in McDougle's guard. Nice move by Steel!

McDougle is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
McDougle punching from the bottom - just letting Steel know he's still in a fight.
McDougle trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
McDougle avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McDougle utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Steel is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Werewolf's cave that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
McDougle looking for a sweep. Not yet McDougle, not yet.
McDougle throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
McDougle tries to strike from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McDougle throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
McDougle is trying to control the position from the bottom.
McDougle wants to sweep here but Steel controlling him for the moment.

Steel gets to his feet. McDougle looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Arnie McDougle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McDougle gets cracked there but stands up to it.


It looks like Arnie McDougle has been cut.
McDougle darts in looking for a takedown but Steel gets double underhooks and turns McDougle into the cage.

McDougle closes the distance and clinches.
McDougle can't find room to land a body shot as Steel controls the action.
Steel looking to throw knees to the head but McDougle is blocking nicely.
McDougle lands with a short head shot on the inside.
McDougle is looking to take this one to the mat.
Steel lands a shoulder strike.
A right hand to the body from Steel.

Steel blocks an uppercut.
Steel fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
A head punch blocked on the inside by McDougle.
Steel lands an elbow that stopped McDougle in his tracks for a moment.
This has been an exciting period of action!

McDougle tries to throw a body punch but Steel avoids it by throwing McDougle back against the cage.
Steel lands a right hand.


That has opened up Arnie McDougle's cut even more.
McDougle throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
McDougle swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Steel throws an elbow but it's blocked.
McDougle is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
A short body shot lands from Steel as the two fighters clinch.
Steel misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Steel lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Steel has a couple of punches blocked by McDougle.
Steel has a couple of punches blocked by McDougle.
A head punch on the inside from Steel fails to land.
McDougle misses with a body punch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Steel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Steel throws a looping overhand right but McDougle ducks down to avoid it.
Sloppy strikes from McDougle. Those never looked like landing.
Steel connects with the punch.

McDougle darts in and clinches Steel up against the cage.
McDougle tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Still in the clinch, McDougle scores with a nice short uppercut.
McDougle swings away with an uppercut that misses.
McDougle lands with a left to the head.

Steel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
McDougle shoots for a takedown but Steel saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Steel is looking to counter punch.
Alex Steel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Arnie McDougle.
Steel scores with a one two! McDougle had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Steel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McDougle.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Steel pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Steel lands with a hook. McDougle tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

McDougle rushes Steel and presses him up against the cage.
Steel is pressed up against the cage. McDougle has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Steel down to the mat. Steel avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McDougle throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A punch combination from McDougle misses.
It looked like Steel was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
A chopping leg kick lands by McDougle.
McDougle swings for the body but Steel moves out of range.
Alex Steel is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A jab lands there for McDougle.
McDougle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Steel throws a sloppy head kick and McDougle moves out of range easily.
A decent looking cross lands there for Steel.

McDougle has closed the distance and engaged Steel in a clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, McDougle creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Steel scores with a nice hook to the head.
McDougle working aggressively here.
Steel misses with a knee strike.
McDougle dodges an elbow strike from Steel.
Steel pushes McDougle back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
McDougle goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Steel lands a hook to the side of the head.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Steel.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Steel lands with a short shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Steel dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Arnie McDougle's cut.
That's time! Steel's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Steel scores with a jab to the jaw.


The cut above Arnie McDougle's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
McDougle misses with a head kick.
Steel is looking for a counter combo.
McDougle keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Steel.
McDougle fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Steel drops McDougle with a straight left! Oh this is bad for McDougle! Steel dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Steel!
A less than humble Alex Steel misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
