Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Pappas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dr Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tom Pappas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dr Rex!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Ben Hemmingworth and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rex shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pappas but Pappas pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Pappas feinted with a counter takedown.
Rex throws a sloppy head kick and Pappas moves out of range easily.
Pappas waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Rex.

Rex instigates a clinch.
Pappas is looking for a takedown.
Rex has Pappas pressed against the cage.
Pappas looking to stall.
Rex has Pappas pressed against the cage, preventing Pappas from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rex successfully pulls guard.
Rex keeping full guard, as Pappas tries to pass.
Pappas lands a couple of decent looking shots.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pappas trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rex keeping moving, preventing Pappas from controlling successfully.
Pappas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rex is keeping the position for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rex can do anything to dispel that myth.
Pappas trying to control but Rex is working from the bottom.
Pappas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rex swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pappas slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rex trying to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Rex ducks under a wild hook from Pappas.
Pappas looks to score with a jab to the body but Rex is just out of range.
Rex wants to clinch.
Pappas takes a swing at Rex's ribcage but misses.
Rex checks the leg kick nicely there.
Rex avoids the body shot from Pappas.
Rex fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pappas drops down looking for a counter takedown but Rex sprawls and moves away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rex darts in and clinches Pappas up against the cage.

Rex ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rex no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Pappas passes Rex's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Rex is trying to stand.
Pappas throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Pappas not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Pappas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Pappas is trying to control the action in half guard but Rex is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Pappas is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Pappas prevents Rex from getting the reversal.
Pappas can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rex is looking to escape.

Pappas is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Rex can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rex wants to control but Pappas is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Pappas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Pappas throws a predictable looking body shot
and Rex connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


It looks like Tom Pappas has been cut.
Rex is looking to clinch but Pappas is avoiding it.
Dr Rex is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Pappas shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rex manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Pappas trying to control but Rex is working from the bottom.

Pappas postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rex is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pappas, into his guard.


Pappas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pappas wants to sweep but no luck.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rex is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Let's hope that Rex has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Pappas looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rex tries to stand but Pappas is controlling from the bottom.
Pappas wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pappas wants to improve his position but instead Rex has moved into half guard.
Rex uses his free foot to push down on Pappas's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Pappas.
Rex lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Rex really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pappas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pappas is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Rex lands a couple of good shots and Pappas has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Pappas wants to escape the position.
Pappas is working hard here to advance position.

What can Pappas do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Rex not allowing Pappas to control his hands.
Rex connects with a big shot to the side of Pappas's head.
Rex controlling from the back.
Rex has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Pappas.
Pappas turns into Rex and is now in his guard.

Rex wants to stand and escape but Pappas is having none of it.
Pappas with a nice head shot there.
Pappas throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rex works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Rex can't keep his opponent in guard - Pappas advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Rex is trying to control but can't.
Pappas wants to pass to mount but Rex is defending the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rex moves into full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pappas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rex is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dr Rex showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Tom Pappas's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Rex shoots in for a takedown but Pappas shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Pappas fails with a takedown attempt.
Pappas just misses with a punch to the body.
Rex misses with a kick to the body.
Pappas fails with a takedown attempt.
Rex darts in looking for a takedown but Pappas gets double underhooks and turns Rex into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pappas wants to clinch up but Rex keeps it at a distance.

Rex moves into the clinch successfully.
Rex just leaning against Pappas, taking a breather.

Pappas is working for takedown but Rex is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tom Pappas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rex tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Pappas avoids it.
Rex taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Rex misses with an elbow strike.

Rex's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rex keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rex is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Pappas looks to score with a jab to the body but Rex is just out of range.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pappas is defended easily by Rex.

and Rex counters with a series of strikes. Pappas will be more careful next time no doubt.
Tom Pappas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A shot to the body from Pappas misses
and Rex counters with a left to the body.

Pappas gets tackled into the cage by Rex. Rex maintains the clinch.

Rex breaks from the clinch.
Rex moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rex closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pappas quickly recovers to half guard.
Rex slows the pace down in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pappas wants to control but Rex is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Pappas is defending against the submission attempts here by Rex.
Rex with the ground and pound but Pappas uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Rex looking to sit in guard and control but Pappas gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Rex looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Pappas passes Rex's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Rex is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Pappas is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rex has managed to free his arm - good work.
Pappas is looking to advance position but Rex won't allow it.
Dr Rex is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ground and pound from Pappas.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dr Rex comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rex has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
