PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Blade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Swilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jake Swilly was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Blade!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Swilly!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swilly keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Swilly gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Blade.
Swilly looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Blade is fending him off so far but Swilly persists. Nope, Blade circles away and we're back to standing.
Blade throws a combination that misses

and Swilly decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Blade's guard.
Swilly won't allow Blade to sweep him here.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Blade holds on and takes a little breather.
Blade is trying to control the position but Swilly postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Swilly pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Blade is keeping the position for now.
Blade wants to sweep here but Swilly controlling him for the moment.
Swilly looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Swilly is looking to advance position but Blade has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Swilly is looking to improve his position but Blade isn't that keen on the idea.
Blade tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Swilly tries to hold on but Blade postures up.
Blade wants to control the pace but Swilly is squirming around nicely.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Swilly tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Swilly wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Blade controlling the pace for now.
Blade trying to control but Swilly is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Swilly shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Blade is pulling down on Swilly's head. It's preventing any offense from Swilly, at least for the moment.
Swilly advances position into side control!
Swilly has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Swilly slows the pace down.
Blade wants to control but Swilly postures up.

Swilly throws an elbow but Blade slips to the side and avoids it well.
Swilly is looking to take a break and control but Blade is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Swilly swings around for an armbar but Blade sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Swilly's guard.
Swilly pulls Blade in close to his closed guard and prevents Blade from doing any damage or advancing position.
Swilly is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Swilly thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Swilly looks to land a strike but Blade avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Swilly throwing strikes but missing.
Blade keeping full guard, as Swilly tries to pass.
Swilly postures up.
Swilly wants to control from the top but Blade keeps moving.
Swilly pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Blade is keeping the position for now.
Swilly throws a big right hand that misses.
Swilly throws an elbow that misses. Blade uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Swilly's guard. Nice move by Blade!

Blade controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Blade continues to stall.
Blade trying to control the position from guard on top but Swilly is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Swilly keeps the fight on the outside.
Jake Swilly is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Swilly has his takedown stuffed
enabling Blade to counter with a crisp jab.
Swilly throws a shot from downtown. Blade moves away and avoids it.
Swilly moves out of range of the strikes.
It seemed like Swilly was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Swilly.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Swilly fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jake Swilly will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

and Blade counters with a straight right hand.

and Blade connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Swilly misses with a takedown

and Blade holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Jake Blade has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Swilly.
Swilly throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Blades head.
Blade missing with knees to the body.
Swilly misses with a punch to the body.
Blade lands with a right to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blade gets underhooks to prevent Swilly's takedown attempt.
Swilly goes for a takedown in the clinch but Blade prevents it.
Swilly is trying to break free.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Swilly.

Blade prevents the takedown attempt.
Swilly blocks an uppercut.
Blade misses with a hook from the clinch.
Blade goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Swilly drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Blade gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Blade pushes Swilly back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Swilly is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Blade can't fight it off and eventually Swilly manages to take the fight to the floor. Blade looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Swilly is fighting to break Blade's control of his arms but Blade is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Blade not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Blade is pulling down on Swilly's head. It's preventing any offense from Swilly, at least for the moment.
Blade avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Blade is controlling Swilly's posture.

Swilly drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Blade manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Swilly has Blade in his guard.


Swilly looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Blade has picked Swilly up and slammed him! Swilly can't keep hold of the triangle and Blade manages to pass to side control!
Jake Blade has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Swilly is trying to improve his position.
Swilly is trying to work for a sweep but Blade has mounted him!
Swilly tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Blade controlling from mount.
Blade trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Swilly tries to reverse the position but Blade maintains control.

Blade goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Swilly turns into him and now he's in Blade's guard.
Blade seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Swilly trying to control but Blade is working from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Blade showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Swilly has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
