PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Selaraj Thangappan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicholas Walter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Selaraj Thangappan had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 136.3lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. The key to victory for Selaraj Thangappan has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Selaraj Thangappan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nicholas Walter!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walter moves into the clinch.
Thangappan lands with a light punch inside.
Walter goes for a takedown in the clinch but Thangappan prevents it.
Thangappan lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Walter stalling the fight.
Thangappan has Walter pressed against the cage, preventing Walter from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Walter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Thangappan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Walter throws a fast counter high kick but Thangappan manages to duck under it in time.
Walter fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thangappan tries to close the distance and clinch but Walter swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
And Walter tries to counter it with a takedown but Thangappan pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Thangappan pushes off an throws an elbow but Walter leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Thangappan throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Walter blocks it with crossed arms.

Walter is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Thangappan pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Thangappan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Walter did well to prevent Thangappan getting side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Walter lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Walter gets to his feet - Thangappan follows without any prompting.

Thangappan appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Walter gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Walter is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Walter tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Thangappan just stands there and leans against the cage.

Thangappan lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Walter blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Walter is looking to control Thangappan's arms but Thangappan gets an underhook and turns him. Now Walter has his back to the cage.

Walter pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Selaraj Thangappan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walter throws a right hand that Thangappan ducks under and follows up with a left that Thangappan also avoids with ease.
Thangappan tries to counter by clinching up but Walter breaks away and moves out of range.
Thangappan tries to close the distance and clinch but Walter swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Walter will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Walter is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Walter jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Thangappan walks away with a smile on his face. Walter gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Thangappan is looking to improve his position.
Walter is looking to stall here but Thangappan recovers full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Walter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Thangappan looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Walter working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Walter gets to his feet. Thangappan looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Thangappan shoots in looking for a takedown. Walter tries to sprawl out of it but Thangappan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Walter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Walter jumps guard but Thangappan turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Thangappan is looking to stand up but Walter won't let him.

Thangappan is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Walter has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Thangappan is looking to defend but Walter has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Thangappan! Walter pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Thangappan taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Nicholas Walter!
