PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dr Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dr Kex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dr Rex!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dr Kex!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Bruno Hogan and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rex tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kex is able to avoid easily.

Rex decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rex wants to take a breather but Kex is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rex tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Kex.
Kex tries to get to full guard but Rex has control of the leg.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rex is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kex is just riding it out for now. Rex eventually gives up the hold.
Kex is trying to control but can't.
Rex knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kex on the ground.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kex tries to clinch up but Rex circles away and keeps his distance.
Kex misses with a takedown attempt
and Rex counters with a two punch combo.
Rex misses with a body shot.
Rex avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kex fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rex misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Rex throws a half hearted mid kick.
Kex dives in for a single leg takedown but Rex sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kex shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rex defends it nicely.
Dr Rex has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dr Kex.
Kex changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rex tries to avoid it but Kex manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rex to the ground. Rex escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rex avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kex avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Kex throws a sloppy head kick and Rex moves out of range easily.

Kex should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rex slips nicely into half guard.
Kex is looking to control Rex's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kex avoid being mounted?

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rex content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Kex manages to get to full guard.
Kex being controlled here, momentarily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rex cracks Kex with a solid left hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dr Rex dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Some bone on bone action there as Rex checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Rex rushes Kex and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Kex scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Rex is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kex can do to turn this around?

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kex tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rex swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Rex appears to be looking for a big counter.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rex misses with a two punch combination.

Kex shoots in and gets a takedown into Rex's guard.
Rex keeping moving, preventing Kex from controlling successfully.
Rex pulls Kex in to control the position.
Kex tries to free his leg and advance position but Rex is retaining full guard.
Rex is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Kex throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rex works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Rex moves into the clinch.

Rex tightens his grip and picks Kex up, before dumping him to the ground. Kex manages to land in guard.
Kex has Rex pulled in close to control his posture.
Kex looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rex is one step ahead there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rex would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kex is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rex trying to control the position from guard on top but Kex is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kex moves in looking to clinch but Rex pushes him off.
Rex goes for a double leg but Kex avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kex continues to drive forward.
Kex is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Rex tries to score with a low kick but Kex moves his leg out of the way.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dr Rex dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Rex gets caught flat footed, as Kex shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Rex looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Kex is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Still in half guard, Kex seems content to control.
Rex is staying active underneath Kex, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kex wants to stand but Rex has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rex avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rex throws a body punch but Kex moves out of range.

Kex feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Dr Rex overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kex works his foot free and advances to mount.
Rex is trying to reverse the position but instead Kex has taken his back - oops!

Kex struggling to keep hold of the position.
Rex has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Kex.

Kex is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Rex is defending well though. Kex let's go of the attempt for now.

Kex thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Rex trying to control the hands but Kex won't let him.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Kex's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Rex is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Kex.
Rex is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dr Kex comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rex has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
