Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oleksander Rudenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexei Smirnov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smirnov is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Oy To Ne Vecher. Alexei Smirnov is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexei Smirnov!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksandr Martynov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rudenko lands an overhand right.
Smirnov on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Smirnov's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rudenko connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Smirnov scrambles back to his feet.

Rudenko clinches up with Smirnov and pushes him back against the cage.
Smirnov effectively controlling the action here.

Smirnov works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Smirnov trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Rudenko working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Smirnov.
Rudenko wants to stand but Smirnov is controlling the position.
Rudenko pulls Smirnov in close to prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rudenko trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Smirnov stands and throws Rudenko's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Rudenko tries to bench press Smirnov off him but Smirnov keeps the position.
Rudenko takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Smirnov throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Smirnov creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rudenko sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The ground and pound from Smirnov seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Smirnov has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rudenko is breathing heavily.
Smirnov wants to control but Rudenko is keeping him busy.

Smirnov is staying tight to Rudenko's torso, preventing him from escaping.
We've been informed that Smirnov has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Rudenko wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Smirnov misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Smirnov is chipping away with strikes.
Smirnov cracks Rudenko with a big right hand but Rudenko just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Smirnov is looking to take a break and control but Rudenko is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smirnov lands a nice forearm strike.
Smirnov cracks Rudenko with a big right hand but Rudenko just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.


Rudenko is rocked!
Rudenko takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexei Smirnov dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Smirnov instigates a clinch.
Smirnov misses with the head strike.
Rudenko blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Smirnov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Smirnov has Rudenko pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Smirnov pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Rudenko tumbling to the mat - Smirnov dives into Rudenko's guard.
Rudenko is trying to keep Smirnov in close.
Smirnov with a flurry of punches that miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smirnov postures up in Rudenko's guard and throws a big left but Rudenko blocks it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smirnov is working Rudenko over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Smirnov working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rudenko's head.
Smirnov lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Smirnov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A combination from Smirnov does no damage.
Rudenko slips a straight right by Smirnov.
Oleksander Rudenko is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smirnov scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Smirnov scores with the left hand. Rudenko knows he should have avoided that one.
Smirnov misses with a wild body shot.
Smirnov jabs at Rudenko's body.

Smirnov wants a takedown.
Smirnov scores with a nice hook to the head.
Oh Rudenko is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Smirnov lands a big left hand right to the temple and Rudenko goes down!

Smirnov looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

A relieved looking Alexei Smirnov thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
