Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Chaney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juul Hupperts!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hupperts looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Hupperts is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hupperts is looking to advance position but Chaney won't allow it.
Chaney wants to improve his position but Hupperts is controlling well.
Hupperts slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hupperts is looking for a kimura but Chaney is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hupperts to get the leverage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hupperts is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Hupperts is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Hupperts is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Hupperts content to control rather than advance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hupperts is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Chaney doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hupperts.
Hupperts thows a huge punch but Chaney dodges it nicely.
Hupperts is looking to advance position but Chaney won't allow it.

Chaney is defending against the submission attempts here by Hupperts.

Hupperts is working for an americana but Chaney has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Hupperts was thinking about the submission.

Chaney is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hupperts is controlling him.
Chaney working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hupperts.
Hupperts lands a couple of elbows.
Hupperts must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hupperts trying to control the position from guard on top but Chaney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hupperts tries to free his leg and advance position but Chaney is retaining full guard.
Hupperts lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hupperts is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Hupperts tries to free his leg and advance position but Chaney is retaining full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hupperts scores with a nice right hand.

Hupperts shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hupperts showed some decent athleticism there.
Hupperts content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juul Hupperts dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Chaney gets caught napping as Hupperts dives in and scores a takedown. Chaney manages to retain guard.

Hupperts drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hupperts jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Hupperts has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hupperts is stalling in the full guard.

Chaney looking for a guillotine here but Hupperts defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hupperts lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Chaney is looking for a triangle here but Hupperts uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Hupperts is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chaney is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hupperts wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Chaney, who protects the arm well.

Hupperts controls the position.
Chaney is looking to regain half guard here but Hupperts keeps moving and retains side control.
Hupperts tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Hupperts tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hupperts has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hupperts is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Chaney is trying to escape and Hupperts transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Chaney is forced to tap! Nice work there by Hupperts! Very nice indeed!
