Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mitch Castro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Safar Rire! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Ivan Kurochkin and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Rire with that takedown attempt. Castro tries to counter by clinching up but Rire breaks away and moves out of range. Rire gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Castro counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Rire doesn't succeed with the takedown and Castro counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Mitch Castro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Safar Rire. Rire tried to score with a low kick but Castro checks it. Castro is looking for a counter combo. Rire gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Castro counters with a straight right hand. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rire throws a leg kick that misses. Castro's jab looks to have found its range, popping Rire under the eye. Rire throws a head kick that misses and Castro counters with a left and a right that stings Rire. Rire keeps the fight on the outside. Castro stuffs the takedown attempt from Rire. Rire gets slowly back to his feet. Castro appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Castro is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Rire fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Rire moves into the clinch. Castro stops a takedown attempt from Rire.
Castro is defending well against a takedown attempt. Castro putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Rire in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Rire is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Castro is defending well. Castro is defending well against a takedown attempt. Rire looks winded! Castro scores with a nice hook to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rire wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rire tries to stall but Castro uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Rire is trying to pull guard but Castro turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Rire changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Castro fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Castro lands with a slapping head kick. Castro is looking to take this fight into the clinch. It seemed like Rire was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Safar Rire seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rire with a poor takedown letting Castro counter with a right hand. Rire fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Castro has closed the distance and engaged Rire in a clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Castro's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Rire misses with a takedown and Castro counters with a one-two to the body. Rire drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. We've been informed that Rire has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Castro gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Castro keeping hold of Rire's head, controlling as best he can. Castro is pressing down on Rire's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rire avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Castro has his foot on Rire's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rire works his way back into a safe position though. Castro is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rire is aware though and is defending well. Rire controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Rire is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Castro looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rire is one step ahead there. Rire trying to control but Castro is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mitch Castro dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Rire drives through with a takedown into Castro's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Castro controlling the position. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Rire trying to control the position from guard on top but Castro is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Castro can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rire controls the pace. Rire throwing strikes but missing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rire lands a couple of elbows. Castro seems keen to control Rire's posture. Rire wants to control from the top but Castro keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Castro not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Nice takedown defense from Castro. No joy for Rire on that attempt. Rire fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Castro to the ground. Rire is now in Castro's guard. Rire wants to control from the top but Castro keeps moving. Rire is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Rire is breathing heavily. Rire trying to control the position from guard on top but Castro is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Safar Rire has got the better of the ground game so far. Rire got a little sloppy there for a moment and Castro has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rire has managed to get both his arms back between Castro's legs - danger averted.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rire with a flurry of punches that miss. Castro had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rire defends it easily. Castro can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rire controls the pace. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Castro utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Rire throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Castro's waist but Castro gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rire off to one side. Castro appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Rire closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Castro's guard. Rire is posturing up here but Castro has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Rire tries to roll out but it's too tight and Rire has to tap! Slick submission there by Castro!
