Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cyril Reed! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pierre Van Gogh! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reed gets the takedown into side control. Van Gogh gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Reed could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Reed stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Van Gogh clinches up with Reed and pushes him back against the cage. Van Gogh lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Reed has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Van Gogh is working away from the top position though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Reed has hold of Van Gogh's hands but Van Gogh slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Reed looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Van Gogh wants to pass the guard but Reed is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Van Gogh content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Van Gogh landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Reed has hold of Van Gogh's hands but Van Gogh slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Van Gogh is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Van Gogh thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Van Gogh is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Reed as he works his way to full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Van Gogh postures up in Reed's guard and throws a big left but Reed blocks it. Reed lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reed won't allow Van Gogh to sweep him here. Van Gogh controls Reed momentarily but Reed frees himself. Van Gogh has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Reed is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. Van Gogh has picked Reed up - he's going for a ride! Van Gogh dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Van Gogh looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Reed with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Reed keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Ground and pound from Van Gogh.
It looks like Cyril Reed has been cut. Reed is breathing heavily. Reed trying to control but Van Gogh postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Reed won't allow Van Gogh to pass to mount. Van Gogh drops an elbow to the side of Reed's head. Van Gogh scores with a big shot! Reed's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Reed! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Pierre Van Gogh!
