The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powell tries to clinch but Bates moves out of range.
Bates misses with a double jab.

Powell tries to close the distance and clinch but Bates swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bates clobbers Powell with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bates looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Bates throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Bates lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Bates.
Powell is looking to clinch but Bates is avoiding it.
Powell shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bates as he avoids it easily.
Powell drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bates kicks Powell off and gets to his feet.

Bates rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Powell moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bates tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Powell lands a jab to the head.

Bates dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Powell shoots in for a takedown but Bates shows good takedown defense.
A nice combination there by Bates.
Powell explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Bates tries to work over Powell's front leg with a kick but Powell checks it.
Powell gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Bates counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Powell thinking.
Powell fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bates rushes Powell and presses him up against the cage.
Powell jumps guard but Bates turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Bates breaks from the clinch.
Powell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Simon Bates dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Michael Powell's cut.

Bates pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Powell back to the cage. Bates follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Powell is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Powell avoids a punch combination nicely.
It's a brutal combination of punches from Bates! Powell is backing up but he can't get away as Bates lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Powell and ends the fight. Great knockout.
