Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael OConnor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bryce Hammond! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hammond dodges the punch combination from OConnor.
Hammond fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hammond closes the distance and clinches up with OConnor, looking for a takedown. Hammond pushes OConnor against the cage but OConnor circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hammond. OConnor lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. OConnor lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Hammond drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. OConnor prevents Hammond from improving position. Hammond misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
OConnor regains half guard, as Hammond was trying to land strikes. OConnor is staying active underneath Hammond, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammond sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. OConnor defending well though. Hammond throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. OConnor blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hammond. Hammond is keen to just control but OConnor is a slippery customer.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Hammond fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Michael OConnor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bryce Hammond. Hammond looks gassed! Hammond shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with OConnor but OConnor pushes him off and we're back to square one. Hammond fails to land the takedown. OConnor throws a left that rocks Hammond and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! OConnor dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Hammond regain composure!
Hammond is rocked!
It looks like Bryce Hammond has been cut. Hammond has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. OConnor decides to stand back up. OConnor steps back and let's Hammond get back to his feet. OConnor closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Hammond out cold! Hammond corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.
